The story of Multimedia began in 2024.

Before Hiling became a champion, another story was born within the College of Arts and Sciences.

Its name was โ€œBeneath the Surface.โ€
It was a film that dared to reveal what many people choose to hide the pain of abuse, bullying, trauma, and the silent struggles behind a smile.
Its message was simple, yet powerful:

โ€œBreak the silence. Seek help. You are not alone.โ€

Through courage, creativity, and teamwork, the students transformed a difficult and meaningful subject into a story that touched hearts and encouraged people to look beyond what they see on the surface.

Their hard work was recognized during the Language and Literature Celebration 2024, where Beneath the Surface earned seven prestigious awards, including Best Film. ๐Ÿ†

Behind this achievement was the dedication and all-out support of their Multimedia instructor, Ms. Angel Alquizar, who guided and encouraged the students throughout their creative journey.

The film also became a testament to teamwork, with Ms. Jaica Guinhawa bringing her talent and skill to the team as its video editor.

But Beneath the Surface was more than an award-winning film.
It was the beginning.

The beginning of a journey filled with stories, creativity, challenges, friendships, and dreams.

And from that beginningโ€ฆ
came more stories.
More films.
More opportunities.
More dreams brought to life.

A group of fourth-year IT students from the College of Arts and Sciences were challenged to create a short film for their Multimedia Systems course.

And from one simple idea, โ€œHilingโ€ was born.
With the guidance of their adviser, ๐— ๐˜€. ๐—”๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—”๐—น๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐˜‡๐—ฎ๐—ฟ, who had been mentoring them since 2024, the students wrote, filmed, edited, revised, and brought their story to life.

Before reaching the competition, they faced four panel evaluations-accepting criticism, improving their work, and learning to believe in their story.

๐—›๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ผ, a man who wishes to return to the past and change the fate of the person he loves.
But in trying to change the past, he learns one of life's hardest lessons:
Sometimes, we cannot change what happened. We can only accept it and find the courage to move forward.

And just like Marco, the students faced their own challenges.
They struggled.
They revised.
They persevered.

Until their film finally reached the 2025 Short Film Competition.
Then came the moment they had been waiting for.
