A couple of off beat art films for your enjoyment this week, maverick British photographer I AM MARTIN PARR provided a sometimes critical but always mischievous mirror to our times, forcing us to take a hard look at how consumer society has shaped our lives,
on an intimate and exclusive road trip across England. His choice of subjects, frames and colours have revolutionised contemporary photography.
Taboo: Egon Schiele offers a bold psychoanalytic reading of the artist’s deep connection to this Bohemian town, both as a physical place and a symbol of maternal longing, desire, and confinement. Through his paintings, writings, and poetry, the film explores his troubled relationship with women, his obsession with time and death, and his raw, modern vision that is still unsettling today
And for those of you who aren’t too fussed about arty stuff, LOMU kicks off at Shoreline next week on the 10th.Some say it should be the 11th but that’s another story.

For a limited time only- Come and discover the maverick behind some of the most iconic images of the past century on an intimate and exclusive road trip across England with the uncompromising Parr, whose subjects, frames and colors have revolutionized contemporary photography.

Since his passing in December of last year it has been a personal project of mine to try and push this documentary back onto the big screen outside of festivals so everybody can experience and witness the incredible legacy Martin Parr left behind

Maybe Americans are craving for hero they can believe in which could explain the terrific success of the opening weeks of our new film of the week…YOUNG WASHINGTON. Before he was the ‘father of the nation’ he was a soldier fighting to survive. Also fighting to survive, this time in a fictional future, is a character called Hig, in THE DOG STARS, a Ridley Scott, story about a pilot who survives a devastating flu pandemic that kills most of humanity. If you are needing a break from war and pandemics then you can escape to the magical world of ANDRE RIEU for the Viva Maastrict 2026 summer concert. Here is also the last of the Met Operas for this season with El Ultimo Sueno De Frida Y Diego, (The Last Dream of Frida & Diego) Seats for both shows are limited however, so get in quick.

Bill Nighy has mastered most genres and roles on stage and screen and now he tackles a grumpy old man role in & SONS. A film about a reclusive author facing his past. Here he is superbly supported by Imelda Staunton and Dominic West. TONY looks at the early Kitchen Confidential period in the life of the great Chef, Writer and Traveller, Anthony Bourdain, at a time where he learned to grow up and latterly described himself as ……a spoiled, miserable, narcissistic, self-destructive and thoughtless young lout, and badly in need of a good ass-kicking. However, if you’re in the mood for some feminine pampering (with some ass-kicking humour) then we have SPA WEEKEND. Three friends out for a luxury Palm Springs spa break descends into chaos when their Auzy mate Mel turns up.

If the second world war is one of your favourite subjects, then you’re in luck this week. We have part 1 of a two-part epic about Charles De Gaulle - DE GAULLE – TILTING IRON
June 1940. France has collapsed and signed the Armistice. As the nation falls into chaos, one man refuses to surrender, fleeing to London to convince the world that the battle for France is far from over. What follows is an inspiring story of courage, conviction and an unwavering fight for freedom
Alongside this we have the ArtBeats documentary HITLER’S BIG FEAR. The N**i regime launched its war on modernity, branding artists like Picasso, Chagall, Van Gogh, and Matisse as “degenerate.” Their works were banned or destroyed while A***n ideals were glorified in state-sponsored shows. Framed by a major new exhibition at the Musée Picasso in Paris, the documentary revisits this ideological assault through rare footage, suppressed artworks, and the voices of curators and survivors.
