In 2003 Tommy Wiseau released the movie The Room (M). It has since become a cult classic, we have been asked to screen it and we are looking at if there is at least 27 people here in GB that would come and see it if we screened it so we break even with the costs of running the film.

On Friday night at 7:30pm we have the once only screening of the Women's Adventure Film Tour 2026.

Tomorrow/Thursday at 5:30pm we have the Final screening of the epic scifi survival adventure The Dog Stars (R13).
Set in a post-apocalyptic world in which a virus has wiped out most of humanity, Survivors are being terrorized by roaming scavengers called "Reapers." The protagonist is Hig, a pilot who survived the flu that killed everyone he knew, his wife included. He lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting ex-Marine. Hig sometimes heads off in his 1956 Cessna, where he can fish and pretend things are how they used to be. When a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life might exist if he flies a bit further. He risks it all to chase a possible haven in Grand Junction. I saw this on Friday night and enjoyed it.

We have a wide range of films for you this week.
We have action packed Spider-Man: Brand New Say (M) tonight at 5:30pm. Thursday we have the Final screening of The Dog Stars (R13).
On Friday at 4pm we have the 30th anniversary special screening of the Disney film Cars (G). This Family Fun Friday Film will include a prize draw at the start of the film. Bring along your favourite Cars and dress up!
Friday evening we have the Women's Adventure Film Tour for 2026. A wonderful selection of short films.
Saturday at 4pm we have Taboo: Egon Schiele (M) for a once only screening. And at 7:30pm we have the French comedy Cycle of Time (M) where a quiet 1950's town couple are somehow transported in time to 2025 and have to quickly learn to adapt to a faster, louder universe. This was one of the French Film Festival films we didn't get to show earlier in the year and it looks awesome!
Sunday we have the Final screening of Young Washington (M) at 4pm. This wonderfully tells the story of a young George Washington, the surveyor-turned-commander who fought for American independence and was unanimously elected the nation's first president. And at 7:30pm we have the once only screening of By Any Means (R16) which tells the true story of a young Black FBI agent sent into 1960s Mississippi to investigate a wave of brutal killings targeting civil rights leaders.
And coming up we have the Encore screening of Broken English, the biography of Marianne Faithful (E) and the 30th anniversary screening of the iconic NZ film The Frighteners (M) directed by Sir Peter Jackson staring Michael J Fox.

In Plant Fiend, Peter Butler explores his relationship with plants, which have always been both a love and a refuge – and led to the establishment and success of both Forest Herbs Research and HealthPost. Chaired by Robbie Burton.

In his memoir, Peter Butler explores his relationship with plants, which have always been both a love and a refuge.

In the mid 1970s he and his then partner purchased 90 acres of dense rainforest in Golden Bay’s Aorere Valley. Living amongst the nikau and rata developed his passion for forest plants but it was gold-mining that helped finance his experimentation with commercial crops. He started with subtropical fruit, before becoming one of New Zealand’s first certified organic kiwifruit growers. When the wet climate and marketing issues put an end to the kiwifruit, growing cannabis was his next venture. It also did not end well for him.

Wanting a high value but legal crop to grow, Peter then researched the medicinal properties of New Zealand native plants. The plant with the best supporting science was horopito, one of the world’s oldest flowering plants.

His plantation of horopito now covers several hectares and the resulting business, Forest Herbs Research, has developed products utilising the plant’s powerful anti fungal properties.

Peter also helped grow a large online retailer of natural health and skincare products, HealthPost, based in Collingwood and owned by him and his family.

Plant Fiend is the story of a driven, risk-taking entrepreneur. His successes and struggles are described with honesty and humour, making for a wonderfully engaging, reflective read.

Peter will be joined on stage by his publisher, Robbie Burton, in what will be a wide-ranging conversation.

Today it's all about the dinosaurs.
At 4pm we have the first screening of The End of Oak Street (M).
After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighbourhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognisable surroundings. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor lead this mystery-thriller. It looks so much fun.

And tonight/Friday we begin our tribute to Sir Sam Neill with the original Jurassic Park (1993) (PG) at 7:30pm. An industrialist invites some experts to visit his theme park of cloned dinosaurs. After a power failure, the creatures run loose, putting everyone's lives, including his grandchildren's, in danger. This classic film's original special effects still are breath taking. Bring along the kids to see this on the big screen! See you there!
