In a fictitious trial, twelve members of a jury must decide whether journalist Ian Bailey is guilty of the murder of French filmmaker Sophie Toscan Du Plantier in 1996. Based on real events, the film reconstructs, through the discussions between these twelve people, a case that ultimately invites the viewer to draw their own conclusions.
RE-CREATION starts 18th June.

NO BABY ON BOARD starts today, exclusively at GECKO THEATRE.
When filmmaker Julia Kots chooses not to have kids and instead donates her frozen eggs, she sets out to document other childless women’s stories. Intertwining their deeply personal testimonies with her own journey, this partially-animated film provides an intimate look at the complex reasons leading more women to opt out of motherhood. By giving voice to those who candidly share their reasons for remaining childfree, Kots’s documentary seeks to explore this taboo yet rising trend that is contributing to declining birth rates across the developed world. The plunging birthrates impact society, from aging populations to immigration policy, making this an urgent issue of our times. The goal of the film is to destroy myths and foster compassion for women’s ownership over childbearing decisions.

Based on a true story, WORDS OF WAR follows world-renowned journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya on her brave crusade.
World-renowned journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya went from being a local print journalist to braving the Chechen killing fields and exposing Russian state corruption under Vladimir Putin. She refused to give up reporting on the war in Chechnya despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence, including being poisoned. She was ultimately murdered in the elevator of her block of flats and it remains unclear who paid for the contract killing.

This week we are trying something new in the form of a $5 MYSTERY SCREENING, where all you know is the rating and the film genre. Wednesday 27 May at 6pm we will show a biographical drama rated M (offensive language). We are not taking booking for this and doors will open at 5:30.

This week sees the start of fascinating documentary “NO BABY ON BOARD” which offers an intimate and humorous look at why fewer women are choosing to have babies nowadays.

We continue our season of Irish drama “CHRISTY”, in which two distant brothers with turbulent pasts in the child care system find themselves living under the same roof, and must make peace with their troubled history and look towards the future. “THE TIME TRAVELLERS GUIDE TO THE HAMILTON GARDENS” also continues. It is a film which showcases the stunning gardens that have risen from what was once an old dump, to one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.

We finish our season of “THE OLDHAM MAN AND THE SEA” an award-winning documentary following 73-year-old businessman, Frank Rothwell, as he rows 3,000 miles solo across the Atlantic ocean, raising funds for Alzeimer’s research along the way, and “THE PRESIDENT”S CAKE”, a film set in early 90’s Iraq, in which 9-year-old Lamia has been selected to prepare a cake to celebrate the president Saddam Hussein’s birthday.

Why are fewer women choosing to have babies now?
When filmmaker Julia Kots decides not to have kids, she embarks on the ultimate spring cleaning — donating her previously-frozen eggs — and documents the stories of other women who don’t have children. Blending their raw confessions with her own egg-sistential journey, this partially-animated documentary candidly explores why more women are opting out of motherhood.
