Starting next week, join us for MOSS & FREUD, a biopic about the life of era-defining supermodel Kate Moss, centred around her relationship with the acclaimed British artist Lucian Feud. Set in 2002, Kate Moss is at the height of her success and at a moment of transition as she prepares for motherhood. When Freud offered to paint Moss n**e during the nine months of her pregnancy, it prompted her to embark on an intense journey of self-discovery. Infamously private and fiercely guarded, Freud begins to unravel Moss' hidden depths, and as the two British cultural icons converge, a lasting bond is formed.

Starting next week, we have a film that tells the powerful true story of world-renowned journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya, WORDS OF WAR. Maxine Peake expertly portrays Politkovskaya’s brave crusade, putting her life in jeopardy by fighting to be an independent voice of truth for the Russian people. She refused to give up reporting on the war in Chechnya despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence, including being poisoned. Politkovskaya’s legacy lives on, and her story serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the right to report the news without fear of death or reprisal.

Coming up one week from tonight, Dylan has another stellar Far Out! Film Night in store for you with THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS from 1966. The film is based on action undertaken by rebels during the Algerian War (1954–1962) against the French government in North Africa, the most prominent being the eponymous Battle of Algiers, the capital of Algeria. It was shot on location in a Roberto Rossellini-inspired newsreel style: in black and white with documentary-type editing to add to its sense of historical authenticity, with mostly non-professional actors who had lived through the real battle.

The film was met with international acclaim, and it is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. It won the Golden Lion at the 27th Venice Film Festival among other awards and nominations. In Sight and Sound's 2022 poll of the greatest films of all time, it ranked 45th on the critics' list and 22nd with directors.

Coming up for next week, we are very excited to start screenings of the inspiring documentary, NO TEARS ON THE FIELD, that follows female rugby players from Southern and Clifton Rugby Clubs over a season in Taranaki. Born and raised in Taranaki herself, award-winning documentary producer and director Lisa Burd (The Pinkies are Back, Monterey) delves into the worlds of players Kate Thomson, Maddison Davison, Mereana Anderson and Phoenix Fraser as they juggle their passion for the game with their personal lives, and what it means to be a woman in rugby.

On Friday, 15 May we are delighted to bring Rob Reiner’s timeless coming-of-age classic, STAND BY ME, back to the big screen to celebrate it’s 40th anniversary. The film is a 1986 adaptation of Stephen King’s short story about four pr***en boys who venture into the woods to find the body of a missing boy. Recollecting moments of his childhood, Gordie Lachance (voiced by Richard Dreyfuss) narrates a particular passage of his life, filled with adventure, camaraderie and the search for a co**se. Crossing railways, swamps and open fields, Geordie (Wil Wheaton), Chris (River Phoenix), Teddy (Corey Feldman) and Vern (Jerry O'Connell) face numerous obstacles that hinder their path, including their own personal family struggles.

★★★★★ "As fresh and moving as when it was first released. The classic of its genre." - Empire Magazine
