Sadly, and I think for the first time ever, we have to cancel the September 1st Blues Club jam night - Sally & the Dome team are dealing with a family tragedy so are thoughts and prayers are with them at this time. We will see you all Tuesday 6th of October as we count down to our 20 years birthday celebration in November!

One of New Zealand’s acclaimed contemporary artists, REB FOUNTAIN is taking her dynamic live band on tour this October in celebration of her new album, Water for Gasoline and is returning to the Dome! Her new album confronts the challenges of our times while searching for light, beauty and connection amongst the noise. The same artistic instinct and collective spirit that shapes Water for Gasoline has long defined Reb Fountain’s live performances, with her live band taking her recordings to the next level.

Supporting Reb is Young Moon the moniker of Los Angeles born, Nelson based Trevor Montgomery. Over the past decade, Young Moon has released music through respected indie labels Western Vinyl (J Tillman, Dirty Projectors) and Orindal Records (Advance Base, Julia Byrne, Cass McCombs), Their style described as “Cloud Gaze” blends ambient textures, slow-burning melodies, and introspective lyrics.

O’Reilly turns her own body into a map of memory, mischief, and motherhood. With the precision of stand-up and the intimacy of a confession, she traces a life lived in skin: 78 organs, 206 bones, 32 teeth, 8.8 kilograms of armour, and two whole human bodies brought into the world.

What begins as a wildly candid comedy special blooms into a story-driven film of sharp observations and big-hearted truths - spanning diary entries from ’98, b***s, birth, selling toes in New York City, and the ongoing, complicated task of learning to like her chins - this is a celebration of messy, magnificent womanhood.

Starting next week, join us for "a French take on Back to the Future" with CYCLE OF TIME, a charming, thought-provoking time-travel comedy with a distinctly French twist. Starring Elsa Zylberstein and Didier Bourdon, this film is a sharp and playful social comedy about a 1950s French family suddenly transported to 2025. As Hélène and Michel navigate a world transformed by technology, changing social norms, and new ways of living, they must decide what to embrace—and what to leave behind.

With humour, charm, and an eye for social detail, Cycle of Time invites viewers to rediscover the present through the eyes of two people from another time. This inventive time-travel tale asks: when the future arrives without warning, what do we hold onto and what do we let go of?

Coming up in one week, FAR OUT! Presents: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. George, an associate professor of history at a small town university, and his wife Martha, the daughter of the university president, return home drunk from a party. Martha has invited a young married couple she met at the party for a drink. Surmising that the invited husband is the blond, athletic new professor, George is reluctant, but Martha gives him no option....

Adapted from a play of the same name, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf redefines the depths of how low a drunken and dysfunctional marriage can go, and done very entertainingly as well! Elizabeth Taylor absolutely shines. Arthur D. Murphy of Variety wrote that her: "characterization is at once sensual, spiteful, cynical, pitiable, loathsome, lustful and tender". The film won 5 Academy Awards.

Join us Friday evening for a Dome Spotlight Screening of DEATH IN BRUNSWICK, a riotous Australian black comedy/romance set in multicultural inner Melbourne. Reserved and unemployed, Carl Fitzgerald (Sam Neill) finds work at a Greek restaurant and begins dating waitress Sophie (Zoe Carides). But when a shady coworker, Mustafa (Nick Lathouris), dies unexpectedly, Carl and his friend Dave (John Clarke) scramble to cover up the accident, triggering a chaotic chain of murder, mayhem, and dark comedy.

Based on Boyd Oxlade’s acclaimed 1987 comic novel, Death in Brunswick became one of Australia’s most celebrated black comedies. The film also showcased Sam Neill’s range as an actor, while Phil Judd’s award-winning score won Film Score of the Year at the 1991 APRA Music Awards.

Starring Judy Davis and Sam Neill, Gillian Armstrong’s acclaimed 1979 Australian classic is a Palme d’Or-nominated adaptation of Miles Franklin’s novel. Set in rural Australia in the late 19th century, it follows the headstrong Sybylla (Davis), a young woman determined to become a writer and forge her own path. This film was Neill’s second feature film, an early milestone in the remarkable career that would span more than five decades.
