“Beautifully shot and well acted by the central trio (particularly Riley)... intrigues enough to draw you in and leave you thinking about what you’ve witnessed, long after the credits roll.” - The Post.

Starts T-H-U-R-S-D-A-Y at the Cinema Lumière : Strictly LImited Season - History has really gone to town in this place on the banks of the Elbe, between Berlin and Hamburg. Two world wars have passed by the family farm where four generations of women, taken on as farm hands, spend part of their lives. Sound of Falling (In die Sonne schauen) interweaves the lives of Alma (Hanna Heckt) in the early twentieth century; Erika (Lea Drinda) in the forties; Angelika (Lena Urzendowsky) in the eighties; and Lenka (Laeni Geiseler) in the present. "It’s a cliché to say that a film will stay with you long after you leave the cinema. This one could haunt you to the grave..." Out of the Past | Next Wednesday 9pm - Andrzej Zulawski's POSSESSION (4k Restoration) A small but welcome Sam Neill tribute screening at the Lumiere- Żuławski was adamant that his tale of dissolution of a marriage (with Adjani and Sam Neill at their most visceral and anguished) was in fact a Cold War parable of pure evil infiltrating the West through the cracks of the Berlin Wall (prominently featured in the opening credits). Set to a hypnotic, percussive synth score by Andrzej Korzyński, Possession remains one of a kind — a true horror masterpiece, an acting tour de force, as well as a work of lacerating autobiography, in which Żuławski reworks his own split from his wife Małgorzata Braunek in terms of a delirious genre ride.
