Hirayama is a Tokyo public toilets cleaner who lives a life of blissful contentment, spending his days balancing his job with his passion for music, literature, and photography. He leads a serene and minimalist life, and can go days saying no more than a few cursory words.

The authentic and mesmerizing movie has no plot, no past full of hurt, no goal, no desire. It avoids sentimentality and melodrama, opting for realistic and understated tone capturing subtle emotions and gestures.

Today (June 13th) at 19:00, come to Music Art Gallery Cafe, Lalitpur for the movie "Wrath of Silence", a crime thriller taking place in bleak hilly northern China.

In a small mining town, Baomin searches for his missing son while facing a corrupt mining corporation owned by a local powerful businessman-cum-villain. Baomin is mute, but it does not prevent the audience from feeling his wrath and hopelessness.

It is an illustration of rural underclass and its futile fight against exploitation by dictatorial elites with wealth and power.

This Saturday (June 15th), join us for the screening of "Nomadland", which won Best Picture at 2021 Academy Awards, Best Film at 2021 BAFTA Awards, Best Motion Picture - Drama at 2021 Golden Globe Awards.

Fern, a widow in her sixties, gives up her home and embarks on a journey around the United States living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad after the company she worked for shuts down. She meets and bonds with fellow nomads along the way.

Today (June 12th) at 19:00, come to Music Art Gallery Cafe, Lalitpur for the movie "The Creator", a science fiction film whose visual effects got it nominated for Academy Awards, BAFTA Awards, Saturn Awards in 2024.

It is set in a near dystopian future that sees a war between US-led Western world and newly-formed country of “New Asia” over the latter's continued embrace of AI. It follows an undercover operative who embarks on a covert mission to uncover a secret weapon in New Asia while searching desperately for the love of his life who he originally thought had died.

The Creator in the film is called "Nirmata", which is a Nepali word, and part of the film was shot in Nepal.

The movie hits differently in a time when it seems like everyone everywhere is talking about AI, whereas geopolitical implication of the film closely aligns with what has happened in 20th and current centuries.

This Friday (June 14th), join us for the screening of "Perfect Days", which was nominated for Best International Feature Film at 2024 Academy Awards and Palme d'Or at 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

Hirayama feels content with his life as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo. He lives his life in simplicity and daily tranquility. Outside of his structured routine, he cherishes music on cassette tapes, reads books and takes photos. Through some unexpected encounters, he reflects on finding beauty in the world.

This Wednesday (June 12th), join us for the screening of "The Creator", a science fiction film nominated for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects at 2024 Academy Awards.

Against the backdrop of a war between humans and robots with AI, former special forces agent Joshua is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, which has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war. As Joshua and his team venture into enemy-occupied territory, they discover the world-ending weapon is actually an AI in the form of a young child.

Today (June 8th) at 19:00, come to Music Art Gallery Cafe, Lalitpur for the movie "CODA", an emotional film delivering realistic view of daily lives of deaf people as they live in a world designed for hearing people.

Ruby is a high school senior working on the family fishing boat with her dad and brother, both deaf. She is her household’s interpreter and go-between with the outside hearing world. The movie follows the process of her family gradually understanding and becoming supportive of her passion in singing.

All 3 main deaf characters are played by actual deaf actors/actress.

Today (June 7th) at 19:00, come to Music Art Gallery Cafe, Lalitpur for the movie "Tetris". If you used to find the game addictive, you would most likely also find yourself hooked on the film.

The story follows American video game salesman Henk Rogers becoming embroiled in legal battles and Cold War tension as he navigates around power figures / villains in both business and politics to get the titular video game licensed and distributed across the world in late 1980s.

Today (June 6th) at 19:00, come to Music Art Gallery Cafe, Lalitpur for the movie "The Spy Gone North", a dense tale touching upon espionage and complex geopolitics between North Korea and South Korea during late-1990s.

The film is based on true story of Park Chae-seo, a former South Korean agent who was able to meet Kim Jong-il under the guise of a businessman. The compelling masterpiece is a faithful depiction of actual historical events consisting of behind-closed-doors deals and power-thirsty politicians.
