LAB -1

We are LAB-1: films, friends, and events in the heart of Eindhoven. An independent cinema and event space, a coffee spot by day, and a bar by night.

We are a home for internationals and locals, and a place to stay moved. At LAB-1 you can experience films, live music, exhibitions, parties and events in 1 building! LAB-1 stands for retro, coziness, dynamism and creativity, a place to enjoy, hang out and feel at home. In LAB-1 you can work, play games, chill or relax in the evening with a drink in our cinema bar. You can watch the best Hollywood, music films, art-house, classic and documentary films in one of our five cinemas and attend a comedy night, concert or event in our event room. For the best parties you can go to the club on the second floor and at the same time you go one floor higher to attend one of our film marathons. We are much more than a cinema. A place to amaze yourself! In 2014, LAB-1 was temporarily located in the abandoned building of Philips Physical laboratory on STRIJP-S. And in 2017, LAB-1 was temporarily located in the oldest building of Eindhoven: the Mariënhage monastery. In 2018 we took over the former Euro Cinema/cinema at the Keizersgracht 19 in Eindhoven! We’re giving away a copy of The Amazing Story of the Man Who Cycled from India to Europe for Love by Per J Andersson (Dutch translation), the book that inspired the movie The Cycle of Love, now screening at LAB-1!

The film is based on the incredible true story of PK, a young Indian artist who travels a 10,000-kilometre journey by bicycle from India to Sweden to reunite with the woman he fell in love with.

Melted Film Festival returns to LAB-1 during Dutch Design Week, with short films about how we see each other, move, grow up and remember.

Each evening has its own theme, and selected screenings include a conversation with the directors.

The Social Reckoning – Aaron Sorkin follows Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen and journalist Jeff Horwitz as they uncover the platform’s closely guarded secrets. At a time when social media shapes so much of what we see and believe, this is an urgent watch about corporate power and the courage it takes to challenge it.

Shall We Dance? - A quiet office worker secretly takes up ballroom dancing and discovers how good it feels to step outside his daily routine. Loved for its warmth and sincerity, Shall We Dance? is a touching ode to ordinary people finding unexpected joy. This Japanese classic returns to cinemas in a new 4K restoration to mark its 30th anniversary.

Yellow Letters - An actress and her husband lose their jobs and face a difficult choice between their principles and their family’s future. Winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, İlker Çatak’s drama uses German cities as the backdrop for its Turkish story, reminding us that censorship and threats to artistic freedom cross borders.

Franz – Franz Kafka tries to make room for writing between his office job, complicated romances, and his father’s expectations. Agnieszka Holland weaves dreams, letters, and dark humour into a portrait of the writer whose unsettling visions of power, guilt, and existence reshaped modern literature and still haunt our imagination.

This Halloween we're inviting you for The Ring, The Exorcist, and Final Destination!

And there is more: on the very same time you can take part in Halloween Game Night with bloody games on the cinema screen. It's in the same time as The Exorcist, so you can attend both films and games. 🎮

Bold and almost otherworldly, the monuments of socialist Yugoslavia brought modernist art and architecture into the heart of public remembrance. Built to commemorate antifascist resistance in the World War II, they expressed shared history and a political vision.

In Milestones, director Jelena Radenović explores how their meanings change when the country and ideology that created them disappear - and what happens when we admire their architecture without knowing their history.

Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen’s classic returns to cinema screens. This time it’s centred around sisters and sisterhood - follow them in their romantic troubles and financial uncertainty against the windy English landscape.

The Cycle of Love – When Lotta returns to Sweden, PK decides to follow her from India on a second-hand bicycle. An unlikely true story about love, long distances, and the people who help us along the way.

Naza - It’s a disquieting documentary about contemporary tragedy - a window into systems of war. Honoured with Special Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival.

Verity - What seems to be a ghostwriter job, might turn into a haunting search of a real writer. Verity is a dark psychological thriller starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson.

Downtown - Three old friends reconnect during the covid pandemic and revisit their youth in 1980s Amsterdam, when the colourful freedom of q***r nightlife was overshadowed by the AIDS epidemic.

Forgotten Island - This crazy adventure becomes a tale about dreams, memory, and friendship. A colourful and dynamic animation for children, teenagers, and adults!
