🎞️⛴️ On the ferry to Eye Filmmuseum, director Ollie Launspach tells us about the making of kiss kiss bang bang, a cinematic love portrait exploring the impact of his gender transition on his girlfriend and co-creator of the film, Sterre Mulder.

After premiering in IDFA’s Short Documentary Competition, the film now continues its festival journey at Karlovy Vary, where it has been selected for Future Frames, European Film Promotion’s showcase of outstanding emerging European filmmakers.

🎞️ Last night I stayed within myself and this morning I decided to live here, the surreal short film by Dutch director Fé Baan, has been selected for the Imagina section at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2026. The film was made in collaboration with cinematographer and producer Ese Roeper.

Set on the magical Dutch island of Texel, the film explores the space between dreams and reality, using fantasy and symbolism to tell a story of escapism, longing, and the search for belonging. ✨

🏆 Two Dutch films shone at KINOLUB – Krakow International Film Festival for Children and Youth.

King of the Wanderers has been awarded the Grand Prix Feature Film, while Twinkle Twinkle Little Elephant received an Honorable Mention Feature Film, recognizing two outstanding stories for young audiences.

A wonderful recognition of Dutch children's cinema. ✨

🚀 Dutch film kept the world watching during the first half of 2026!

Leading the charge among Dutch majority productions, MISS MOXY reached audiences in 12 countries with over 14,400 screenings, followed closely by PANDA BEAR IN AFRICA (6 countries, 4,122 screenings) and ALPHA. (21 countries, 3432 screenings).

On the minority co-production side, THE SECRET AGENT dominated international screens with an impressive 90,589 screenings across 39 countries, while MIDWINTER BREAK and THE BIRTHDAY PARTY also made their mark abroad, the latter reaching 5 countries with over 38,000 screenings.

Meanwhile, streaming kept the momentum going: 2,335 Dutch (co-)productions were available across 396 platforms in 249 countries worldwide.

🎬 Cartoon Physics, the new stop-motion short by Ru Kuwahata and Max Porter, has been selected for Annecy 2026. It is co-produced by Dutch producer Joost van den Bosch (Ka-Ching Cartoons), alongside Erik Verkerk.

Inspired by a poem by Nick Flynn, the film explores a mother’s attempt to protect her daughter from the harsher realities of life, navigating the delicate space between imagination and reality.

What is, is now, the new stop-motion short by Dutch filmmaker Jikke Lesterhuis, has been selected for the WTF Competition at Annecy 2026.

Set on a tidal sandbank, the two-minute film uses humour and detailed handmade animation to explore the fragility of nature and how easily human actions can disrupt its balance.

In our interview, Lesterhuis discusses the challenge of working in an ultra-short format, her passion for stop-motion, and her upcoming projects.

⛴️🎞️ SEE NL takes the ferry to Eye Filmmuseum with celebrated director Hisko Hulsing, who is returning to Annecy Festival with his latest work Danse Macabre, an apocalyptic nightmare about war, based on music by Dmitri Shostakovich.

In Danse Macabre, Shostakovich’s music drags us into a violent maelstrom of terror, destruction and human suffering. Produced by Richard Valk Productions and festival distribution handled by Studio Wasia, the short film is selected for the Short Competition.
