The Management of the Marrakech International Very Short Film Festival is pleased to announce the selection of the films that will participate in the 9th edition of the Festival, taking place on 5, 6 and 7 November 2026 in Marrakech, Morocco.
Following the screening and selection process, the Selection Committee has chosen 24 films, representing a wide range of cinematic experiences, artistic sensibilities and creative approaches.
Among these works, 16 films will compete in the Official Competition, while 8 films will be presented Out of Competition, as part of a programme highlighting the diversity of cinematic writing and creative experiences within the field of very short filmmaking.
The 16 films selected for the Official Competition will compete for several awards:
• The Grand Prize of the Festival;
• Best Director Award;
• Best Screenplay Award;
• Best Cinematography Award, with the support of Europe-Atlas Association;
• Best Animation Award, presented to the best film in the Animation Cinema category.
Through this selection, the Festival reaffirms its commitment to supporting cinematic creativity and encouraging emerging voices and new forms of artistic expression.
Very short filmmaking offers a distinctive space for creation, built around brevity, ellipsis, narrative density and visual expression. Within an extremely limited timeframe, filmmakers are challenged to create a universe, develop an idea, evoke an emotion and offer a distinctive perspective on the world.
The 9th edition of the Festival continues this commitment to discovery, encounter and dialogue between different cinematic cultures, while giving particular attention to new forms of cinematic writing and contemporary audiovisual practices.
The Festival Management warmly thanks all the filmmakers and producers who submitted their works for this edition and congratulates all the selected films.
The Festival wishes all participants every success in the competition and looks forward to welcoming audiences, filmmakers, professionals and cinema enthusiasts on 5, 6 and 7 November 2026 in Marrakech.
