Exactly five years ago.

On 8 August 2021, at 6pm, The Flicks on Street 95 ran its last screening. The COVID curfew meant everyone had to be home by 9 PM, making a later evening screening impossible. We chose "The Last Reel", a Cambodian film about cinema itself. There couldn't have been a more fitting title for a goodbye.

Everyone in that room thought the same thing: This Is It. Michael Jackson style. A final bow after twelve years of movies in Phnom Penh.

Nobody would have believed that exactly five years later, we’d be hard at work on a new location in BKK3, preparing to relaunch The Flicks with all the nostalgia, excitement, and chaos that comes with it. Plus, the classic comfort: cold AC, ice-cold drinks, the best popcorn in town, and the return of Better Movies to Phnom Penh.

We open this September.

Construction Man. Daily from 7am to 6pm at The Flicks. More than one even! No popcorn, no entry. Fantastic.

Absolutely. This is an insanely bad movie. But do you remember the chaotic glory of those “Sharknado” nights at the old Flicks? The tiny venue was packed to the gills, the air conditioning barely holding on against a room full of people howling at screen-flown Great Whites, tsunamis and chainsaws, cold beers in hand. Some even brought along their ow inflatable sharks!

It wasn’t just movie night; it was a collective, glorious celebration of cinema so hopelessly bad it achieved pure perfection.

Fast-forward to 2026, and “Water Park Shark” arrives like a nostalgic, fin-tastic lightning strike straight from that exact same unhinged universe.

Today marks a big milestone: the 5-year lease has officially been signed and sealed with the traditional thumbprints of the Sangkat Chief, the landlord, and the tenant, at the new location. Keys in hand. Time to start building something beautiful!

WE HAVE FOUND OUR NEW HOME!!!
The Flicks is coming back in an original Khmer townhouse in the heart of BKK3, just a short walk from the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. This makes it very centrally accessible for all residents in Phnom Penh.

Do you remember the feeling? The lights dimming slowly, the rustle of popcorn bowls delivered into the room, and that beautiful moment of collective anticipation just before the screen came alive…
