I made a post yesterday about TV stations airing Christian movies without permission, and as expected, a few people misunderstood the intention. So let me make a few things very clear:
1. The motive of my post is not about money. We currently have TV stations that broadcast our films every week at no cost, simply because they asked and obtained permission. We didn’t charge them a kobo.
2. Every Gospel film on YouTube carries the contact of the producer. Is it wrong to expect TV stations to do the right thing by reaching out before broadcasting someone’s work?
3. Some stations even go as far as covering the producer’s logo and replacing it with theirs. If this isn’t wrong, then what is?
4. In an ideal society, none of these actions would be attempted because the consequences for such intellectual property violations are severe and well-known.
5. Is it wrong to ask people to do the right thing simply because we are preaching the gospel? Preaching the gospel does not mean encouraging lawlessness.
The gospel we preach is a gospel of truth, order, and integrity. Respecting the labour, sacrifice, and creativity behind Christian films is part of that truth.
