It all started with a worn off box that during the move of an old archive was about to be thrown away; inside there was an old binder with notes, drawings and semi-finished glasses. Those retro-style shapes, a 3 point hinge on a temple, and 2 point in the other, the tips with that particular round end, all those notes and drawings .....took us back to a bygone era. Our company produces frames since 1959 and perhaps those notes and those glasses belonged to one of our craftsmen, who came from abroad in the district of glasses to learn the craft and wanted to push his luck on his own; we called him Mr. We like to think that the hand was of a man who had a dream and that he knew well the eyeglasses. Then we went back to the origins of the old Italian workshops, to create a collection that expressed that sophisticated and timeless elegance. Hally & Son eyeglasses are identified by the use of the material: the water buffalo horn. Extremely precious material for its qualities of lightness and strength at the same time; each frame is unique for structure and color, the 100% natural material makes the product hypoallergenic, giving maximum comfort to the wearer. The particularly complex and handcrafted processing of the material makes the buffalo horn eyeglass a unique and particularly fine accessory that, by using it, while consuming, it will perfectly adapt to the skin surface of the wearer, such creating an unrivaled wearing comfort. Hally’s archive, due to the elegant lines and timeless shapes, seemed like it came out of a black and white movie; we have re-interpreted them in a 8 models collection both optical and sun, mostly unisex, all with flex hinge, each of which is associated with one year of our archives and with a dreamer, but we simply named them TYPE I, TYPE 3, TYPE 8. Those so particular details found in the original pieces of Mr Hally, such as round and holed end-temple, and the "imperfect" asymmetrical position of the hinges, we've made them become his signature. Together with each natural horn eyeglass you will receive a special cream for the care and maintenance of the horn. The same models are also offered in Replica Horn, a particular acetate expressly conceived for this collection, which significantly reproduces the chromatic and tactile characteristics of the natural horn. Massimiliano Zegna Baruffa, who brought back to life this line, explains us:
"Mr Hally was a craftsman who was trying to create his concept of eyeglasses in his spare time using scraps and leftover stocks, and who aspired to teach his art to his son; this is how we imagined him, as an entrepreneur who lived a dream. With this collection, which traces our history of frames manufacturers, we wanted to celebrate the uniqueness of the handicraft work, which allowed to the eyewear district and to our company, since 1959, to become the cradle of the worldwide eyewear. Tutto nasce da uno scatolone malandato che durante un trasloco di un vecchio archivio stava per essere gettato via; all’interno, un vecchio raccoglitore con appunti, disegni e occhiali semi-finiti. Quelle forme dal sapore retrò, una cerniera a 3 punti su un’asta, e a 2 punti nell’altra, i terminali dal particolare finale rotondo, tutti quegli appunti e disegni…..ci hanno riportato ad un’epoca ormai lontana,
La nostra azienda produce montature dal 1959 e forse quegli appunti e quegli occhiali erano di uno dei nostri artigiani, venuto dall’estero nel distretto degli occhiali per imparare il mestiere e che voleva tentare la fortuna in proprio; lo abbiamo chiamato Sig. A noi piace pensare che quella mano fosse di un uomo che aveva un sogno e che gli occhiali li conosceva bene. Siamo tornati quindi alle origini dei vecchi laboratori artigianali italiani, per ricreare una collezione capace di esprimere quella eleganza sofisticata e senza tempo. Gli occhiali Hally & Son si identificano per l’utilizzo del materiale: il c***o naturale di bufalo d’acqua. Ogni modello che abbiamo trovato nell’archivio del Sig. Hally, per le linee eleganti e le forme senza tempo, sembrava uscito da un film in bianco e nero; li abbiamo reinterpretati in una collezione di 8 modelli sia vista che sole, prevalentemente unisex, tutti dotati di cerniera flex, ognuno dei quali è associato ad un anno del nostro archivio e ad un sognatore , ma li abbiamo denominati semplicemente TYPE I, TYPE 3, TYPE 8,. Quei dettagli così particolari trovati nei pezzi originali di Mr Hally, il finale d’asta rotondo e forato, e quella “imperfetta” disposizione asimmetrica delle cerniere, li abbiamo fatti diventare la sua firma
Insieme ad ogni occhiale in c***o naturale verrà consegnato anche una crema speciale per la cura e la manutenzione del c***o. Gli stessi modelli vengono proposti anche in Replica Horn, un particolare acetato sviluppato appositamente per questa linea, che riproduce sensibilmente le peculiarità cromatiche e tattili del c***o naturale. Ma chi era veramente Mr Hally? Lo spiega Massimiliano Zegna Baruffa, colui che ha riportato in vita questa linea:
“Il Sig Hally era un artigiano che nei ritagli di tempo e utilizzando gli scarti di produzione provava a realizzare un suo concetto di occhiali, e che aspirava ad insegnare la sua arte a suo figlio; noi lo immaginiamo così, come un imprenditore che ha vissuto un sogno. Con questa collezione, che ripercorre la nostra storia di produttori di montature, abbiamo voluto celebrare l’unicità del lavoro artigianale, che ha permesso al distretto dell’occhiale e alla nostra azienda , sin dal 1959, di diventare la culla dell’occhialeria mondiale.
