| National Participations: Bosnia and Herzegovina
The title of the project, DOMUS DIASPORICA, evokes the relationship between home and diaspora, raising questions of belonging and highlighting the paradox between roots and stability (home) and dispersion (diaspora). Mladen Bundalo’s point of departure for this exploration is his lived experience. The questions he has asked, together with the crises encountered when leaving his country of origin and entering an expatriate condition, have shaped his artistic practice. Through this practice, he seeks to map points of orientation and articulate his experience of the world he inhabits. What does “home” mean when one changes place of living, and how does its meaning shift in relation to personal experience or historical, economic and political conditions? These questions form the basis of DOMUS DIASPORICA, opening a space for layered interpretation and portraying the phenomenon in its complexity.

Tra percussioni ricavate dalla chitarra e melodie vocali, Walter Zanetti intreccia ritmi afrocubani e ricerca sonora. Gigi Masin rievoca la Venezia di quarant’anni fa in WIND, mentre il PMCE – Parco della Musica Contemporanea attraversa le musiche di Bach, Webern, Davachi e un inedito di Morricone con la voce di Pasolini, tra tensione e analisi del sublime. Alif Hilal, Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, Islam El-Ghazouly esplorano il potere immersivo di canti e rituali, tra ripetizione e trance. Le voci dei Tallis Scholars risuonano nella Basilica di San Marco, mentre Polygonia e Surgeon attraversano le sonorità della club culture, tra bass music, breakbeat, house e dub. Al Teatro alle Tese Marta De Pascalis lavora con nastri magnetici e sintetizzatori, seguita da Francesco Messina, tra sperimentazione tradizionale e composizione contemporanea. Infine, la Leonessa d’Argento Sarah Davachi esplora le sfumature timbriche dell’organo da camera a cinque registri, mentre il BAR NIGHTINGALE REVISITED di Masaru Hatanaka accende la notte nel nuovo spazio ORIGINE.

At 7 pm, the Tese dei Soppalchi come alive with the sounds of the . In THROUGH WOOD, THROUGH FLESH, DANCING ON A STRING, ATTACHED TO NOTHING, Lara Dâmaso explores “the resonant relationship between the human body and musical instruments”, while Andrea La Pietra, with THRU EXTREMITIES, examines the “possible and impossible interactions between pure, childlike melodic instincts and overstimulated digital processes of composition”. Then, at 9 pm, the ORIGINE space becomes the setting for “the ramblings of an imagined childhood”, conceived by HIELOCO.

“The grace of a child who looks at the world with the wonder of their first gaze – or, better, their first listen – respecting its mystery, is the very same revolutionary grace with which music has the power to disarm us,” writes Caterina Barbieri. In the opening days of , ethereal cathedrals of feeling have swept through Venice, inviting us to turn our gaze towards “to the sanctity of the present” and discover that “in sound we are reborn at every instant, the magical dust vibrating in resonance with us”.

From the celebratory ritual of Brazil’s “baloeiros” to Kara-Lis Coverdale’s CHANGER IN AIR; from the spellbinding act of radical freedom by Golden Lion Keiji Haino to the funeral rite for unreleased tracks by Mechatok & Armature Globale; from Laraaji’s invitation to deep listening to the funk mineiro of DJ Anderson do Paraíso – culminating in the new creation by alys(alys)alys and livwutang’s DJ set.

| National Participations: Republic of Nauru
For its first-ever , the future inundates present Nauru, the world’s smallest island nation, as both a warning and a guide, raising questions about life in a place where tomorrow has already arrived. Addressing environmental decline and its intertwined histories of extractive activity and post-colonial impact, the positions Nauru not as a distant or marginal site, but as a place where the consequences of global decision-making have long been lived realities. By presenting its own account of ecological urgency and the fragile conditions of territorial survival, the Pavilion offers a perspective shaped directly by erosion, loss, and the pressures placed on small nations confronting planetary shifts.

Then you have until Saturday 31 October to apply for the second edition of the , a new programme dedicated to all the Departments of La Biennale di Venezia – Art, Architecture, Cinema, Dance, Music, Theatre, Historical Archive – and aimed at artists accompanied by a member of their production team, coming from all over the world, for the development of projects rooted in an audiovisual element and involving at least two other art forms.

Mercoledì 4 novembre, dalle 18.30 all’una di notte, la nuova sede dell’Archivio Storico all’Arsenale si trasformerà in uno spazio di memoria condivisa e immaginazione collettiva. Il rito laico, ideato da Marco Paolini e Michela Signori per (La Fabbrica del Mondo), con la consulenza di Davide Iodice - teatro, intreccerà teatro, musica, testimonianze e ricerca scientifica. Scritture originali e racconti di Venezia saranno arricchiti dalle testimonianze degli ospiti del Centro Servizi San Giobbe (I.P.A.V.), in ideale continuità con il progetto “Promemoria” di Davide Iodice per la . Insieme, daranno voce alla memoria della città e apriranno un dialogo sul suo futuro, coinvolgendo artisti, scienziati, ricercatori e giovani.

Al centro della Veglia, ci saranno le “lettere civili”: parole da affidare alla Venezia del 2066, per immaginarne il futuro e interrogarsi sul bene comune, sulle responsabilità condivise e sulle sfide climatiche. Fino al 4 novembre 2027, tutti – veneziani e non – potranno scrivere la propria lettera e depositarla nella cassetta postale VENEZIA 2066: sigillata e custodita presso l’Archivio Storico, sarà aperta in occasione del centenario dell’Acqua Granda, il 4 novembre 2066.

From 11 am to 6 pm, explore HEAVEN IS OURS / O CÉU É NOSSO alongside Brazil’s “baloeiros” (Arsenale – Sala d’Armi E, first floor), let yourself play in the sonic playground ARCADIA (Arsenale – Sala d’Armi E, ground floor), or immerse yourself in the soundscapes of Venice and Vancouver with TWO THINGS IN THE WORLD SEEM TO BE ONLY ONCE by Wyldie Bracewell for the (Ca’ Giustinian – Laboratorio delle Arti). As night falls, make your way to ORIGINE (Arsenale – Sala d’Armi G): from 7 pm, LIFE/VITA takes over with a showcase by 100_ve, bringing together Michele Nannini, Enrico Caldini (Gabsphere), Philip Kylberg and Gaia Ginevra Giorgi.

Un concerto di Keiji Haino, una chiesa sulle rive del lago Lemano e una presenza inattesa: Phaibun, il gatto residente di La Becque: con 福々っとぶんちゃん BLISSFUL BUN-CHAN, Invernomuto torna su una performance del musicista giapponese, registrata nel 2025 durante il suo soggiorno a La Becque.

Il concerto è documentato integralmente, ma l’immagine del Leone d'Oro alla carriera di rimane quasi impercettibile, mentre Phaibun attraversa lo spazio della chiesa, assumendo il ruolo di una presenza silenziosa e quasi scultorea.

Tra suono e immagine, visibilità e assenza, l’installazione – allestita dal 16 al 18 ottobre 2026 alle Tese dei Soppalchi dell’Arsenale – sposta lo sguardo su ciò che normalmente resta sullo sfondo, interrogando il modo in cui una performance può essere conservata e rivivere nel tempo.

A sonic playground for experimentation, play and collective creation at the 70th International Festival of Contemporary Music : this is ARCADIA! Until 24 October 2026, the installation, curated by Francesco Devincenti, transforms the Arsenale’s Sala d’Armi E (ground floor) into an interactive environment that takes music beyond the stage and turns sound into a shared experience.
Bringing together modular synthesisers, keyboards, drum machines and oscilloscopes, ARCADIA draws inspiration from arcade halls and the imaginative world of spaceships, inviting visitors to explore new sonic possibilities and discover what can emerge from each interaction. Developed in collaboration with SchneidersLaden, ARCADIA turns musical experimentation into an opportunity for encounter, discovery and collective imagination.
