10 years ago, around a kitchen table in early 2016, an idea was born.
With the help of two great mates, Barry Clarke and Luke Weir, we set out to bring a nostalgic American tradition to Ireland in a way that had never been done before. We had no blueprint, just a belief that people would love the experience as much as we did.
What followed has been a decade that we could not have imagined.
We've navigated government interventions, featured in DΓ‘il discussions, dealt with broken screens in the middle of events, watched wheels literally fall off trailers, celebrated wedding proposals under the stars, and welcomed thousands of families to magical Santa experiences.
Somehow, along the way, we secured an exclusive Bon Jovi concert screening deal, took the Home Alone in Concert experience on a nationwide tour with an incredible 80-piece orchestra, and created unforgettable nights at Leopardstown Racecourse, Malahide Castle, Slane Castle, Cork and Galway.
Like every small business, we've also roped in just about every friend and family member we know to scan tickets, park cars, build screens, sell popcorn, direct traffic and pack trailers in the middle of the night. They know who they are, and we genuinely couldn't have done it without them.
We've had the privilege of partnering with incredible brands including Spotify, Sky, Disney, Universal and 98FM. We've driven Peugeots, Nissans and Volkswagens, been invited to Silverstone, and even travelled by private plane.
But none of those moments compare to what really matters.
Over the last 10 years we've welcomed hundreds of thousands of movie lovers, hosted more than 1,200 screenings, and created countless memories for families, friends and couples across Ireland.
Not many people can say they've taken over an airport for a concert and cinema or screened Star Wars with the Skelligs as the backdrop... somehow, we've been lucky enough to do both.
There have been highs, lows, laughs, tears, sleepless nights and the odd tantrum.
Building Double R Media and Retro Drive-In Movies has been one incredible journey, and we couldn't have done it without every customer, partner, sponsor, supplier, crew member, family member and friend who believed in what we were trying to create.
To everyone who bought a ticket, shared a post, sponsored an event, answered a last-minute phone call, or stood in a muddy field at midnight helping us pack away... thank you. You've all been part of this story.
Here's to the next chapter... because we're not finished yet. β€οΈπ¬πβ¨
