While praising the gritty film look of 'Dead Man's Shoes', Seamus briefly touches on the contrast between shooting digitally and using actual film reel. Digital might have a high definition slickness to it while film looks more authentic and gritty especially if that's the tone your film is going for. Technology nowadays is so advanced that you can use your phone to make films like in the case of 'Tangerine' (2015). However, one must acknowledge that even films shot on handheld 16mm back in the day could still be bad. It's not about how something looks, it's the filmmaking that matters!
