A 2019-es Guggenheim-ösztöndíjas, a San Francisco Art Institute egykori hallgatója, Christiane Cegavske a kortárs független animáció egyik legeredetibb alkotója. Oregon sötét fenyvesei és csavart tölgyfái között nőtt fel – ez az erdei, mitikus közeg máig meghatározza művészetét. Művészetében a képzőművészet és az animáció határai feloldódnak: festményei, szobrai, installációi és stop-motion filmjei ugyanannak az álomszerű, kissé baljós univerzumnak a részei, amelyet antropomorf lényei népesítenek be.
Nemzetközi ismertséget első egészestés filmje, a Blood Tea and Red String (2006) hozta meg számára, amely mára kultikus státuszba emelkedett. A 13 éven át, kézzel épített bábokkal és díszletekkel készült, dialógus nélküli stop-motion film a szerelemről, birtoklásról és veszteségről mesél egy különös lényekből álló világban, ahol mindenki ugyanazt a titokzatos babát akarja magáénak tudni. A 2019 Guggenheim Fellowship recipient and former student of the San Francisco Art Institute, Christiane Cegavske is one of the most original voices in contemporary independent animation. She grew up among the dark pine forests and twisted oaks of Oregon—an arboreal, mythic environment that continues to shape her artistic vision. In her work, the boundaries between fine art and animation dissolve: her paintings, sculptures, installations, and stop-motion films all belong to the same dreamlike, slightly ominous universe inhabited by anthropomorphic beings.
International recognition came with her first feature-length film, Blood Tea and Red String (2006), which has since achieved cult status. Created over 13 years with hand-built puppets and sets, this dialogue-free stop-motion film tells a story of love, possession, and loss in a world of strange creatures, where everyone longs to claim the same mysterious doll as their own. Now, a rare opportunity arises to experience this extraordinary film in a cinema setting.
