DRACULA (1958) 4K RESTORATION PLUS Q&A WITH HAMMER EXPERT, WAYNE KINSEY - MONDAY 19 OCTOBER AT 7PM

A landmark in Gothic horror, Dracula cemented Hammer Films’ reputation as the leading force in modern horror cinema and introduced audiences worldwide to Christopher Lee’s definitive interpretation of Bram Stoker’s immortal vampire, opposite Peter Cushing’s fearless and tenacious Van Helsing.

This landmark 4K restoration from original film elements reinstates long-lost footage, believed missing for more than six decades, and previously seen only by audiences attending the film’s original Japanese theatrical release.

The Riverside will be screening this new restoration in the presence of the world’s leading expert on Hammer films, Wayne Kinsey, who will be live on stage at 7pm before the film for a Q&A. Wayne will also be in our foyer from 5:30pm signing copies of his books - Peter Cushing Scrapbook, The Mummy Scrapbook and The House that Hammer Built vol 3 (1955-58), which includes Dracula.

COMING SOON... FATHERLAND (12A)

Director Paweł Pawlikowski explores the fragmented soul of postwar Germany through a father-daughter road trip dominated by personal ghosts. An impeccably shot and evocative drama meditating on the healing process for a fractured national identity, it forms the third entry in Pawlikowski's trilogy of historical films, following Ida (2013) and Cold War (2018).

Sandra Hüller plays Erika, accompanying her father, Nobel laureate author Thomas Mann, on a literary tour through West and East Germany in 1949. As family tragedy strikes, it becomes apparent that the spiritual healing Mann deems essential for the divided country may be necessary for their own relationship.

COMING SOON... GIANT (12A)

Summer 1983: The Witches is about to hit the shelves and Roald Dahl is making last-minute edits. But the outcry at his recent, explicitly antisemitic article won’t die down. Across a single afternoon at his family home, and rocked by an unexpectedly explosive confrontation, Dahl is forced to choose: make a public apology or risk his name and reputation.

Inspired by real events, Giant explores with dark humour the difference between considered opinion and dangerous rhetoric offering a complicated portrait of a fiendishly charismatic icon.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, John Lithgow leads the cast as Dahl, with support from Rachel Stirling and Aya Cash. Filmed live at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

Screening at 6pm on Sunday 22 November.
