The doors are open, the projector lights flickering and we're ready for an incredible day of cinema. Yesterday's audience were blown away by The Odyssey and we're extremely busy for it today as well. We've got family films running right across the day too with the weather not being as nice.

It's been another incredible weekend of film here in Whitley Bay and we've got a whole day of widescreen entertainment ahead with the doors just opening

It's tinged with a little bit of sadness as after 11 years service our screen 1 projector 'old betsy the Barco' is being decommissioned tonight. After filling our screen with light and delight here for more than 60,000 hours she's getting replaced with a brand new laser projector. It's more energy efficient, deeper on colours and with enhanced dynamic range is really brining us into the future.

500 MILES (12A) is a poetic, life-affirming road movie and celebration of the human spirit that follows a broken family who are forced to come together when two young brothers run away from home.

While their fighting parents (Clare Dunne & Michael Socha) tear their hair out with worry, runaways Finn (Roman Griffin Davis) and his live-wire younger brother Charlie (Dexter Sol Ansell) embark on an epic adventure from Yorkshire, over land and sea, to the Wild West coast of Ireland. With the free-spirited busker Cate (Maisie Williams) helping the young boys along the way, their destination is Di**le, County Kerry, and their estranged, beloved Grandfather (BAFTA-award winner Bill Nighy), who their parents haven’t spoken to since the fateful events of the previous summer.
