Northamptonshire Film Archive Trust

Northamptonshire Film Archive Trust The Northamptonshire Film Archive Trust is a registered charity whose aims and objectives are to collect, preserve and show archive cine films..

The Northamptonshire Film Archive Trust is run by a group of enthusiasts which has been running for more than 30 years. In that time its collection of film, projectors and related movie film equipment has increased. The collection has more than 3,000 reels of film, much of it amateur which has been handed over to the Trust. This is essential as we are able to preserve a moving social history of th

at time. As much of the film in our collection has been made by amateur cinematographers it is unique in being the only film taken from that particular viewpoint. Based at Wellingborough Museum we screen public shows on a regular basis giving members of the public an opportunity to discover/re-live aspects of life as it was in days gone by. We always welcome new members. Meetings are held monthly at Wellingborough Museum on the second Monday of each month at 7.30pm.

Many thanks to all those who visited our stand at the Northamptonshire Heritage Fair held at Wicksteed Park yesterday. We had an excellent day talking to many people, re-establishing past acquaintances and speaking with many people who found out about us for the first time.
Remember - do not throw away your old cine film - there may be valuable social treasures captured on film that need to be preserved for the future.
And remember, today is tomorrow's history and we are looking to create an annual archive of Northamptonshire on film so, if you are attending a special event, see the landscape around you changing -from buildings being re-purposed (or demolished - or and other social occasion, just send us a clip of film (no longer than 2 minutes) with your details and information - the who, what, why and when - from which we can compile an archive for the future. We have a consent form we can send you that will allow us to screen the footage at a later date.
We have many Northamptonshire scenes from the past on film and are aware that, much is still happening and being recorded, maybe put on social media, but sometime can be hard to track down in weeks later. We want to collate these scenes into one archive where they will be accessible in the future. Please help if you can.
For more information, please pm me or email: [email protected]
Thank you.

The New Year brings new opportunities for anyone who is interested in keeping a working archive alive.
Throughout the year The Northamptonshire Film Archive Trust is running two-hour volunteer sessions on the last Thursday of the month at The Chester House Estate where it has recently moved into a former retail unit. This has given us the room to invite people in to join us in maintaining our equipment, cataloguing the films and other essential processes.
A tailored course can also be arranged for those who wish to gain certification for educational or work purposes,
If you are interested in helping, the sessions – which will run from 10:30am to 13:30pm – must be booked in advance by contacting [email protected]
The unit is also open to the public most Tuesdays and Thursdays where you can drop in and visit us and see what is probably the largest collection of home-movie equipment in England on display.
