Edmakesfilms: Videographer From Notts

28/09/2026

I've been reading 35mmc for a long time and it's so cool to be able to announce that I'm now a contributor/article writer for the site!

I'm a professional videographer by trade, not a heavily experienced film photographer but I do take my point and shoot everywhere i go and it's been really fun writing about some of my photos.

Taking my film camera on shoots has reinforced my brand as 'edmakesfilms' and has also provided my clients with some cool free black & white film snaps in the process.

On one particular job for XIX Vodka, they spotted that I was taking a few BTS pictures and they asked me to shoot a whole bunch more and send them the results. I've made sure to take it on every shoot for every project ever since.

You can find my author page in the link below. My first article is out and theres another (a Nottingham Forest related one) coming soon.

I hope you enjoy reading!

I feels weird to write a post about a new laptop but Every new computer has represented a big part of my life and this is the first post on my new Macbook. I thought I'd write something to celebrate..

Laptop 1:
As a 10 year old kid, I created my first films on a cheap family laptop we**am - even taking it outside to nearby fields to get shots for comedy sketches. This is the only laptop to never die, I just simply grew out of it.

Laptop 2:
I worked part time cleaning hotel rooms for two years to be able to afford my first Macbook at 16 and I ended up making a feature film on it and multiple documentaries. I moved to London with this laptop and I was gutted when it sadly failed on me after so many video renders. I'd pretty much fried that computer alive over the space of 4 years.

Laptop 3:
It's midway through university and I took my music hobby to another level, making albums and creating sounds for films. I even edited my first paid client video projects on it! After university I made adverts for a marketing agency and despite them having their own iMacs (which were great), I used to bring my own just because I loved editing on it.

Laptop 4:
I've owned a desktop PC for the last few years and despite it being great, its lack of portability means I don't have stories to tell. I've used it to edit countless fun films but I've already taken this Macbook out for a coffee and I think it loves me more..

Here's to a new era of coffee shop working! I've missed it and i feel back to my old self. The big PC life attracts a hermit lifestyle I've been trying to escape from.

I'm sat in Bustler in Sneinton Market with a friend writing this and he too relates to laptops strongly representing different times in his life.

Maybe it's normal? Maybe it's a techy guy thing? Is this a cringe LinkedIn post?

Pitchside For Nottingham Forest

It’s safe to say I am a huge Nottingham Forest fan. I’ve had a season ticket since I was a child and sit with half of my family at every home game....

I've just written an article on my website about drones in video production.

From local projects in Nottingham to big video production jobs around the world, everyone asks to bring out the drone.

From an outside perspective, the idea of your videographer flying a cool gadget seems super worth the money! On the other hand, your audience doesn't always need to spend ten seconds looking at your building from a birds eye perspective when they're watching to check out your product or service (and retention is key to keep them watching).

There are certain businesses that definitely benefit from a drone perspective however! Let's explore that.

Drone filming is so much fun and it it’s the best way of capturing aerial footage if you don’t have a helicopter in your budget.. The thing is, previous clients of mine and even some other professi…

It's been a couple of years now since a documentary of mine was featured on BBC news!

I worked with the Pythian Club in Nottingham (a great charity) to create a documentary about knife crime and drill music for the CPS.

The greatest thing is, the CPS didn't ask for a documentary. The Pythian Club knew that the knife crime stories wouldn't hit home on paper. Young people who have benefited from a creative life of music production wouldn't be able to tell their story too.

A report wouldn't have earned us news coverage either, it wouldn't have changed the law, it wouldn't have been remembered.

Whether it's a funding application or absolutely anything, a bespoke documentary is a brilliant way to tell stories and hit home.

I absolutely love making them!

A lot of fun filming this little XIX Vodka event in Leeds.
Comedy in a sandwich shop... with Isaac HP!

The problem with filming next to comedians is that they end up using you in your set. If you're filming next to comedians on stage, prepare for them to make fun of you and go with it. Isaac was super nice and happy to take some pictures with the Vodka bottles also - which I'll share at some point!

There's lots of great reasons people like the Sidemen put on a small comedy event for their Vodka and hire a videographer to gather footage:

- Try out new flavours & cocktails (lots of feedback!)
- Promote the collaboration with Isaac on social media
- Test out an event formula they can pitch to venues

Thanks so much to the XIX team for asking me to tag along!

I live in Nottingham now, but when I first moved to London (for film school) I knew absolutely no one. Introducing yourself is hard sometimes.

Two years into my London journey, I plucked up the courage to talk to a photographer who (four months after meeting) needed a videographer to help him capture video content at an event he was shooting.

I didn't know that event was Wembley Stadium until the night before - and that I'd have an all access pass. The whole day was a blur, I just remember the press lounge and pitch side. It was my first 'proper' job as a freelance videographer.

(The attached picture is a still of a slo-mo shot I took on the shoot!)

Since then I've worked for a marketing agency in London creating all sorts of videos, moved back home up to Nottingham and started up for myself as a freelancer.

It's been a bumpy ride so far but I've had the pleasure of working for big names like Nottingham Forest, The CPS and Bic!

I guess... Talk to everyone you want to talk to! I'd be nowhere if I hadn't.

“We have a video on our website homepage, but it’s quite old! We need a new one that’s less corporate and showcases our new facilities.”

This project was a fun one, turning what could have been a standard corporate video into a fun-to-watch edit with comedic elements and lots of colour!

Over 1,000 locals have watched this video right until the end – in the first year of embedding onto the website. That's pretty good for a local business..

It also loops silently in their reception area on a TV with subtitles to read. If you need any promotional video work, you know who to message!
