🎙 It’s Open Mic Night this coming Friday (5 June)! Come along for a great night of live music from local talent. Doors open at 8.30 pm, with music starting at 9.00 pm.

Did you know? Open Mic Nights have been running at the Magic Lantern for fifteen years already! Many musicians have made their debut performances here, sometimes playing their own material and sometimes covering their favourite songs — with acts ranging from 8 to 80 years old! 🎸

We welcome all styles of music, from folk to rock to jazz, with some fun pedals thrown in (we even had a psytrance DJ once). Either way, you won’t find a more appreciative and respectful audience. See you on Friday! 🍻

Reminder: Tuesday night is Quiz Night at the Magic Lantern, as always hosted by the brilliant Ian & Claire! ✍️🍻

Doors open at 8.30pm, and the quiz starts at 9pm. The cost is £1 per player, payable in cash on the night.

Everyone is welcome — we suggest arriving early to get a table, as these nights are usually very popular and we often have to spread out into the main hall!

Another new film arrives today (Mon 1 June)!

The Christophers is the latest film from legendary filmmaker Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven), which has received rave reviews in the national press. It stars Ian McKellen in a career-best leading performance, matched at every turn by the stunning Michaela Coel. The story centres on a once-celebrated artist whose children enlist a forger to access his unfinished canvases in a deceptive bid to secure their inheritance.

Wednesday 3 June’s screening will be followed by Film Club — an informal and friendly gathering open to everyone (no membership required). It’s a chance to learn more about the film and discuss it.
