What does it mean to belong to a place — and who gets to claim it?

Over two years, filmmaker and visual artist Boris Thompson-Roylance travelled across Britain, using film and photography to explore the rituals, folklore and landscapes that shape ideas of national identity.

Filming pre-Christian ceremonies and seasonal traditions alongside the Bibby Stockholm asylum barge in Portland, Dorset, The Land Remains brings two very different realities into conversation: an imagined connection to an ancient past, and the experiences of people displaced in the present.

Featuring voices from Britain’s folk community, including folk singer and song collector Sam Lee and alchemist and apothecarist Charlotte Pulver, the film asks what our fascination with folklore can tell us about Britain today — and how ideas of land, belonging and identity become entangled with a changing nation.

Our screening will include an introduction and post-film discussion with director Boris Thompson-Roylance, joined by special guest speaker Mac Macartney from Embercombe Retreat.

Matt Johnson’s Tony takes us back to 1975, when a 19-year-old Bourdain arrives in Provincetown, Cape Cod, with ambitions of becoming a writer and ends up working in a chaotic restaurant kitchen.

What follows is a formative summer of bad decisions, new friendships, hard work and an unexpected discovery of what a kitchen — and food — might mean to him.

Dominic Sessa plays the young Bourdain, with Antonio Banderas as the chef who becomes an unlikely mentor.

A coming-of-age story about finding your way in the world, Tony offers a glimpse of the restless young man who would go on to become one of the most distinctive voices in food and travel.

A gloriously odd mix of mockumentary, dark comedy and magical realism, LADY takes aim at our obsession with being seen, our hunger for attention and the strange things we do when we feel invisible.

This September, Totnes Cinema is joining Totnes Pride for a weekend of q***r cinema, celebrating stories that make us laugh, cry, swoon, question, remember and, most importantly, feel seen.

From cult classics and radical art-house cinema to joyful coming-of-age stories and films that have become part of q***r history, we’re bringing a whole weekend of LGBTQIA+ stories to the cinema.

Films about desire, identity, friendship, rebellion, chosen family and finding the courage to be exactly who you are.

Because q***r joy isn’t just about being happy. It’s about connection. It’s about being visible. It’s about finding your people, making space for each other and celebrating the lives and stories that deserve to be seen.

And that’s exactly what Totnes Pride 2026 is all about: four days of q***r culture, community, art, music, parties, conversation and celebration, spread across the town. This year’s theme is Q***R JOY, and everyone who supports the LGBTQ+ community is welcome.
