Sometimes the problem is not that you are failing to thrive. It is that you have been trying to survive in an environment that asks you to keep cutting parts of yourself away. Growth often begins when there is finally enough space to become more of who you are.

Sometimes guilt after saying no isn’t a sign that you’ve done something wrong. It can simply be the uncomfortable feeling of doing something differently. When keeping other people happy has helped you feel safe or connected, setting a boundary can feel surprisingly threatening at first.
