⭐️ ⭐️ TONIGHT! 7pm Radway Cinema⭐️ ⭐️

Sidmouth Film Society presents EASY RIDER, the first of our US mid-term election specials.

It’s a rare opportunity to see this iconic film on the big screen. Controversial at its release, it champions the counter culture of 60s America and makes no apology for it.

You can still buy tickets here:

EASY RIDER [18] Sun 11th October, 7.00PM
WITH INTRODUCTION

Rev up your hogs and join Pete and Den on the road to discover what America is all about,
encountering bizarre characters and way out situations en route.
One of the landmarks of US cinema, Easy Rider stamped its imprint on American social
history with its stunning visuals and searing take on the country’s societal strata, from
hegemonic authority to thriving (and sometimes fraudulent) countercultures.
It’s fascinating how much of what they uncover on their fateful road trip has resonance today, perhaps showing that the world of MAGA has, in fact, deeper roots than one imagines.

TONIGHT!
SFS presents
FAR FROM HEAVEN
A wonderful way to complete your weekend

26/09/2026

TICKETS STILL ONLY £5!!
We are so looking forward to the wonderful FAR FROM HEAVEN [12A] tomorrow, Sun 27th September @ 7.00pm, with of course an intro by Martin.

Directed byTodd Haynes, it stars Julianne Moore, Dennis Quaid & Dennis Haybert.

In picture perfect 1950s Connecticut, a housewife living in an apparent domestic idyll faces marital upheaval when she comes face to face with something wholly unexpected, finding solace in the shape of her African-American gardener.
Todd Haynes’ celebrated film evokes the spirit and the look of 50s melodramas so perfectly it could easily be the work of a film-maker of that era, most obviously Douglas Sirk, whose All That Heaven Allows was cited by Haynes as a key influence.

SUNDAY 30th AUGUST @ 7pm
RADWAY CINEMA

Have you seen The Odyssey? Great though it is, were you thinking, like me, that what it really needed was some meaty French dialogue and a whole lot of Brigitte Bardot? Well, we have just the thing for you...

LE MEPRIS [15]
Dir Jean-Luc Godard. Starring Brigitte Bardot, Jack Palance, Michel Piccoli. 103 mins. Fr 1963

Writer Paui Javal (Michel Piccoli) is tasked with juicing up a struggling production of The Odyssey, but along the way his wife (a radiant Brigitte Bardot) begins to suspect that she is being used to further her husband's career.

A truly great film-witihin-a-film classic, with The Odyssey forming a nicely timely backdrop to the marital shenanigans playing out across a Mediterranean sun-drenched wonderland.

Sorry for the late notification due to technical errors, CAROUSEL is on TONIGHT, 7pm

Fairground barker and let's say colourful character Billy Bigelow gets the God-given chance to make amends for his less than ideal life choices, in this beloved example of the spectacular musicals that graced the huge cinema screens of the mid-twentieth century.

If you want a heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting redemption tale, peppered with great songs galore and dance routines that will have you raring to join in, then climb on board this ride. Wizards of the genre Rodgers and Hammerstein pull out all the stops with this barnstorming rollercoaster ride through human emotions that will leave you moved, breathless and ultimately uplifted. And what a bunch of songs! June is Bustin' Out All Over, If I Loved You and the favourite of every Kop-dweller in need of a boost, You'll Never Walk Alone. Utterly blooming marvellous, albeit in a roundabout way.

What a wonderful way to complete your weekend. Buy tickets here:

Sentimental Value - An absolutely breathtaking piece of filmmaking. Not my words, but the words of Mark Kermode, about the film we're showing at the Radway tomorrow night.

It's a biting, sharply written and performed drama which puts family trauma under the microscope, while taking acerbic potshots at Hollywood and the creative process en route.

The Sunday Times reviewer Tom Shone said it combines 'the satisfactions of arthouse filmmaking with the emotional wallop of great melodrama'.

Sounds good? See you tomorrow night. 7.00pm.

What a fabulous turn out last Sunday forJean de Florette
Only one more sleep until part 2, MANON DES SOURCES, showing at the Radway Cinema @ 7pm, Sunday 26th

The story that had its heartbreaking beginning finds its resolution in this triumphant sequel. Once again, sumptuously sun-bathed hills form the backdrop of the human drama beautifully played out by a formidable cast at the top of their game.
