Writer Paui Javal (Michel Piccoli) is tasked with juicing up a struggling production of The Odyssey, but along the way his wife (a radiant Brigitte Bardot) begins to suspect that she is being used to further her husband's career.

A truly great film-witihin-a-film classic, with The Odyssey forming a nicely timely backdrop to the marital shenanigans playing out across a Mediterranean sun-drenched wonderland.

Very excitingly, we're showing the rapturously received The Christophers, on Sunday 26th July at 7.00. Starring Ian McKellen and Michaela Cole and directed by Steven Soderbergh, it's a tale of familial greed versus a wily elder, and had one reviewer rhapsodising thus: terrifically exhilarating and funny, as bracing as a large vodka and tonic before lunch (Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian)

Fairground barker and let's say colourful character Billy Bigelow gets the God-given chance to make amends for his less than ideal life choices, in this beloved example of the spectacular musicals that graced the huge cinema screens of the mid-twentieth century.

If you want a heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting redemption tale, peppered with great songs galore and dance routines that will have you raring to join in, then climb on board this ride. Wizards of the genre Rodgers and Hammerstein pull out all the stops with this barnstorming rollercoaster ride through human emotions that will leave you moved, breathless and ultimately uplifted. And what a bunch of songs! June is Bustin' Out All Over, If I Loved You and the favourite of every Kop-dweller in need of a boost, You'll Never Walk Alone. Utterly blooming marvellous, albeit in a roundabout way.

Sentimental Value - An absolutely breathtaking piece of filmmaking. Not my words, but the words of Mark Kermode, about the film we're showing at the Radway tomorrow night.

It's a biting, sharply written and performed drama which puts family trauma under the microscope, while taking acerbic potshots at Hollywood and the creative process en route.

The Sunday Times reviewer Tom Shone said it combines 'the satisfactions of arthouse filmmaking with the emotional wallop of great melodrama'.

What a fabulous turn out last Sunday forJean de Florette

The story that had its heartbreaking beginning finds its resolution in this triumphant sequel. Once again, sumptuously sun-bathed hills form the backdrop of the human drama beautifully played out by a formidable cast at the top of their game.

SFS presents the fantastic JEAN de FLORETTE.
French acting doesn't get much better than this line-up. Yves Montand and Daniel Auteuil are just fabulous as the dastardly duo set on depriving their neighbour of his just desserts. And, OK, Gerard Depardieu isn't necessarily a chap you'd want to invite round for drinks and nibbles, but his performance in this film is towering. If you want a film that gives you a much-needed dose of sunlight, all the while provoking the odd tear, you can do no better than this. It may also leave you wanting a glass of Stella Artois. You'll know why when you see this rightly treasured 80s classic for yourself.
