Hello all a message from our North West Official Adam Flanders
Dear BECTU Members
I am writing on behalf of March for The Arts; a collective set up to provide resources, information and support to the creative industries community.
Since the closure of the sector, we still do not have the dates for when we can have indoor events and shows without social distancing, no continued financial support for furloughed or freelance workers and the rescue funding has still not reached organisations. And now we are being told by the chancellor that we in the sector are none viable.
With this being the current situation, there is now a planned march for 12.00pm Saturday 3rd October 2020. This will start from the Metropolitan Cathedral and will follow a route that passes as many venues in the city as we can that will finish at St George’s Plateau and culminate with a rally of various speakers from across the sector. People are encouraged to come in costume, bring their instruments, wear their blacks, bring their puppets, bang their drums and dance their way there.
We are writing to you to ask if you would please attend as a BECTU member in the sector and march together as BECTU members. Covid safety is a top priority for us, and it is important to know this is not an event or an opportunity to socialise, this is a protest. For everyone's safety please keep socially distanced, wear a mask, and clean your hands.
If you want more information you can visit the website at https://www.marchforthearts.com/ Or the social media pages on Facebook and Twitter.
Please let me know if you are likely to attend, the more members we have the better on the day.
Best Wishes
Adam
