Forget-me-not Chorus Denbighshire and Conwy are looking for Volunteer Singing Buddies for their community choir who meet in the United Church in Rhyl, Tynewydd Road, Rhyl on Saturdays between 2-4pm.

The Role of a Volunteer Singing Buddy

As a Singing Buddy, you will be supporting people living with and alongside dementia; your encouragement makes all the difference. Your presence throughout our sessions helps to create a respectful, positive space where everyone feels valued and uplifted through song.

What you’ll be doing:

In your role, you will help us create a warm, welcoming and enjoyable environment by:
Helping our Session Coordinator greet participants with a warm welcome
Chatting with participants and helping them feel comfortable
Sitting alongside participants during the session
Assisting with serving and clearing away refreshments
Helping to tidy and clear the room as needed after sessions

What to expect from a typical session:

Sessions run for 2 hours
All sessions are led by a professional music leader, accompanied by a pianist and supported by a Session Coordinator
Sessions include vocal and physical warm-ups and movement adapted to participants’ abilities
Sessions are inclusive, uplifting, full of energy and, most importantly, joyful

Why volunteer with us?

You will make a real difference to those living with and alongside dementia
You will be part of a warm and supportive community
You can enjoy the wellbeing benefits of singing together and sharing memories through musical connection

The session co-ordinator supports the music leader in all the organisation of sessions and is responsible for the pastoral care of the participants. They will be your point of contact for any queries.

If you think you would like to volunteer, please email [email protected] for more information.

There’s something really special I wanted to share ❤️

My son Bobby has been working on something incredibly close to his heart… a children’s book to help other children understand dementia.

Bobby sees the world in such a unique and thoughtful way. Like many children, he has some additional needs, which can make things a little more challenging for him at times — especially with emotions, sleep, and processing the world around him. But it also means he feels things deeply, shows incredible empathy, and notices the little things that others might miss.

Through coming along to my Memory Makers sessions in care homes, Bobby has built the most beautiful connections with the residents. He’s asked questions, shown kindness, and really tried to understand what dementia means — not just for the person living with it, but for families too.

That’s where the idea for this book came from 💛
A child’s way of explaining something that can feel confusing or even a little scary.

Our hope is that this book will help children:
✨ Understand dementia in a gentle, simple way
✨ Feel less worried or confused
✨ Learn how to connect with older generations

It’s everything that Memory Makers is about — bringing generations together, creating understanding, and making special memories that truly matter.

I’m honestly so proud of him. This is more than just a book… it’s kindness, awareness, and love through a child’s eyes. Few typos on my end due to being dyslexic.🫣 will soon being sorted before it's published,
