Community Cinema, run by volunteers. Shows films for the whole age range. We hope as we get better known audiences will increase with your support.

The Atrium Cinema is run by volunteers who share the idea that it is fun for North Walsham to have regular cinema screenings in our fabulous Atrium Theatre. The volunteers are all local people helping in our spare time, and we need more, so if you would like to join us then please introduce yourself to the volunteers doing the refreshments. We have no official status, and no-one is paid except to

have our finances properly kept by COAST – a local arts charity. It costs several hundreds of pounds to put on a cinema screening, and at the moment most of the screenings lose money. If we get to the stage of making a profit we will consult our audience what to do, but options might include reducing ticket prices or showing children’s films, old classic films or ‘Art House’ movies, at a loss. If you have some ideas for the Atrium Cinema or would like to volunteer we would love to hear from you.

Meet the volunteers #4 - Karin. Karin has been involved in the group since 2022 and carries out several tasks including getting our posters out, keeping track of online sales and team leader duties for screenings. We couldn't manage without her. Her favourite film is Jaws because 'it scared me and has some brilliant quotes'.

Our next matinee on Friday, 28 August, is Hamnet. Starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, the film is an adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s book imagining the domestic life of Shakespeare and his family. Jessie Buckley’s Academy Award winning performance portrays a mother ravaged by grief, while Shakespeare reveals his own sense of loss with his play Hamlet. It’s likely you’ll need tissues.

We invite you to our family screening of Walt Disney’s The Lady and the Tramp tomorrow morning, Tuesday, 4 August. This vintage musical animation was released in 1955 and most people will not have seen it on a big screen. The story is about two dogs who fall in love and features Peggy Lee as the voice of Darling. A new memory for children and a nostalgic outing for parents and grandparents.

Doors open at 10.30 am and the film is due to start at 11 am. Our family film on Tuesday, 4 August provides more nostalgia. Walt Disney’s vintage musical animation The Lady and the Tramp was released in 1955. The story is about two dogs who fall in love and features Peggy Lee as the voice of Darling. She co-wrote and sang ‘He’s a Tramp’ for the film. This will be the first time most people will see the film on the big screen and will provide happy memories. Who can forget the charming spaghetti scene?

Meet the volunteers #3 - Sheena. You will see Sheena serving refreshments before the film. She joined the group in 2025. Her favourite film is Chariots of Fire. She was impressed by the social history portrayed and the Van Gelis soundtrack.

Tomorrow afternoon, Friday, 24 July, we are sailing back to the 1960s with the film Caroline. It will be a nostalgic afternoon of classic songs from that era; the Atrium Cinema is proud to be one of the few locations showing the film. Be there or be square!

Our next matinee screening this coming Friday, 24 July, will take you on a voyage of nostalgia. Do you remember listening to the latest rock music tuned to Radio Caroline on your transistor radios? The pirate radio station broadcast from a ship off the Essex coast and changed how music was received. Caroline is the film of the musical and will feature many iconic songs from the 1960s; the Atrium Cinema is proud to be one of the few locations showing the film.

Tomorrow, Friday, 17 July, our evening screening is the 2007 Cohen Brothers film No Country for Old Men. It stars our spotlighted actor Tommy Lee Jones, as well as Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Woody Harrelson. The film is a tense thriller about a man who stumbles on the aftermath of a drugs battle. The film won 4 Oscars, including Motion Picture of the Year in 2008.
