Tomorrow, Friday, 17 July, our evening screening is the 2007 Cohen Brothers film No Country for Old Men. It stars our spotlighted actor Tommy Lee Jones, as well as Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Woody Harrelson. The film is a tense thriller about a man who stumbles on the aftermath of a drugs battle. The film won 4 Oscars, including Motion Picture of the Year in 2008.

This coming Friday, 17 July, we’re kicking off our tribute to Tommy Lee Jones with the 2007 film ‘No Country For Old Men’. Also starring Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Woody Harrelson, written and directed by the Cohen Brothers. The film is a tense thriller about a man who stumbles on the aftermath of a drugs battle. Tommy Lee Jones plays a careworn sheriff with dry repartee – deputy ‘it’s a mess ain’t it sheriff?’ Tommy Lee Jones ‘Well if it ain’t it’ll do until the mess gets here.’

Atrium Cinema Volunteer profile #2 - Robert. Bob started volunteering in 2017 and is one of the group's projectionists. He also books and orders the DVDs that have been chosen each quarter and compiles the rotas to make sure there are roles covered for each screening. His favourite film is 'As Good As It Gets' starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt.

For the film buffs: Dalton Trumbo was the screenwriter for the film Roman Holiday. However, at the time the film was made he had been blacklisted in Hollywood because he was a member of the Communist party. He was not credited at the time, although the film received the Academy Award for best screenplay - a front person, Ian McLellan Hunter, picked up the award. Trumbo was recognised for his writing posthumously in 1993. He wrote several excellent screenplays for films such as Spartacus and Papillon. He was known for writing in the bath.

Released in 1953, you may have seen it on TV, but here’s a rare opportunity to see Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn on the big screen. Shot in black and white, the film received 3 Oscar awards including Best Actress for Audrey Hepburn, who also won the BAFTA. This is a wonderful summer treat.

Meet the Atrium Cinema volunteers #1 - Trottie. Trottie has been an active member of the group since 2017. She takes on a number of roles including supervising at screenings, applying for grants, keeping administration in order, projecting, chairing planning meetings and writing the minutes. Phew! Her favourite film is Fargo.
