NCC Established 2009. BFFS British Film Society of the Year 2012 & 2013

Born in 2009, and run by 6 like minded volunteers with a passion for film, the Newcastle Community Cinema is a non-profit making organisation with one aim - to bring great movies, new and old, familiar and less-so, to the people of Newcastle and its surrounding region. Since the gala opening screening of "The Shining" back in Halloween of 2009, to an Annesley Hall bursting with 170 guests, The Cin

ema has endeavoured to provide a wide range of films on a monthly basis, catering for all tastes in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Boasting a well stocked bar, and a traditional popcorn machine at every show, NCC is a welcome alternative to the multiplex way of enjoying films, and puts the old fashioned excitement back into "Saturday Night At The Movies"! With many exciting event movies and special screenings planned for the next 12 months, if you love film, you'll love NCC!

"BLUE HERON" (12A)(2025) 🪶🩵
Tuesday 8th September // 7.30
(English & Hungarian with Subs)

Drawing on her own memories, Romvari shapes a deeply personal portrait of childhood, family fractures, & the fragility of recollection.

It's the late 1990s; eight‑year‑old Sasha & her Hungarian immigrant family attempt to build a new life, only to be destabilised by the increasingly dangerous behaviour of Sasha's older brother, Jeremy.

Beautifully shot & boldly structured, Romvari’s unbelievably accomplished debut is a potent rumination on the complexity of trying to understand our loved ones.
