Every second Thursday, one of our team gets to take over the big screen and share one of their all-time favourite films with you. It’s all part of our Staff Picks series, where bragging rights are up for grabs as each team member tries to grow the biggest audience! 👀🍿

This time, it’s Lauren’s turn, and she’s picked the brilliantly bonkers 1986 horror-comedy rock musical Little Shop of Horrors! 🎶

Finis Terrae + New Live Score 🌊🎶🎬

This September, Cinetopia present Jean Epstein’s 1929 sea-swept silent classic in a stunning 4K restoration – accompanied live by a new, original score from Edinburgh composer Dan Abrahams and French drummer Philippe Boudot.

Four seaweed harvesters. A remote island off Brittany. A quarrel that turns to tragedy, and a desperate crossing through fog and open sea to save a life.

Shot in a documentary-style, using local non-actors, Jean Epstein’s camera reveals an unforgiving, isolated environment where men live a hard, rudimentary existence of toil against the sea and the elements. 🎥

Through experimental techniques, Epstein frames the landscape, the sky, and the waters in a highly poetic visual style, rich in atmosphere, and a dual sense of menace and beauty.
