Northern Folklore Archive are a duo hellbent on championing folklore from the North of the U.K. Purveyors of the strange and creepy, they have launched the Go Folk Yourself Folk Horror Film Club to highlight fantastic folk horror cinema!

The Wolf of Snow Hollow:
John Marshall, a recovering alcoholic and local police officer, never believed in werewolves. Until, that is, mysterious dead bodies began turning up every full moon in his small hill town. But how can you solve something that is merely legend? Unsteadily treading between horror and comedy, The Wolf of Snow Hollow pulls folklore into what should be a simple small town crime mystery.

Going straight for the jugular for CULTPLEX's STAB Horror Season, Interference Films invites you to test yourself with two of the most brutal films ever committed to celluloid.

Kicking off proceedings with the British horror classic EDEN LAKE and following it up with the creme-de-la-creme of french extremity MARTYRS in blood soaked 4K! This is a double bill certainly not for the faint of heart!

EDEN LAKE

Eden Lake follows a couple who head off on a romantic excursion to a remote spot for what promises to be a relaxing weekend...however things do not go to plan AT ALl.

Encountering a group of rowdy youths, things escalate very quickly into a living hell for all involved. Bringing the horror to the foreground with a stellar cast of actors including Kelly Reilly, Jack O'Connell, Michael Fassbender & Thomas Turgoose to name a few...

This film sticks with you long after the credits roll...if you have never seen this before, I can assure you that the big screen experience will pack one hell of a punch!

MARTYRS (4K)

Speak to anyone about the genre of French extremity and Martyrs is usually the first to be name-dropped and for good reason!

An absolute masterclass in uncompromising, brutal and disturbing cinema that has to be seen to be believed. Don't expect yet another 'torture p**n' style of film that was popular during the 2000's...Martyrs breaks the mold by being a surprisingly deep and philosophical film despite the almost constant barrage of ultra-violence that you are exposed to.

Martyr's follows Lucie, a woman who suffered horribly as a young child at the hands of some mysterious organisation. Years later, Lucie embarks on a mission of bloody revenge and drags her childhood friend Anna along for the ride.

Make sure you catch this rare screening in glorious 4K!

SCHEDULE:

DOORS: 19:00
EDEN LAKE: 19:30

Two serial killers, Two FBI agents - One criminally disturbed double bill!
Don't miss Longlegs and Silence of the Lambs as part of our STAB Season on Sat 24th Oct.

Single Tickets and Double Bill Tickets available!

Longlegs:
After making the rounds in American cinemas to loud and polarising acclaim, Longlegs comes to CPX to disturb the living daylights out of you.

FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes an unexpected turn, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.

Starring Nicolas Cage as the titular serial killer, Osgood Perkins's (Gretel & Hansel, I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House) new film is set to be one of the most memorable horrors in recent memory.

The Silence of the Lambs

In this chilling adaptation of the best-selling novel by Thomas Harris, director Jonathan Demme crafted a taut psychological thriller about an American obsession: serial murder. With a psychopath named Buffalo Bill murdering women and believing it takes one to know one, the FBI sends Agent Clarice Starling to enlist the help of the infamous Dr. Hannibal “the Cannibal” Lecter to gain insight into the mind of another killer.

As Clarice Starling, Jodie Foster subverts classic gender dynamics and gives one of the most memorable performances of her career. As her foil, Anthony Hopkins is the archetypal antihero—cultured, quick-witted, and savagely murderous—delivering a harrowing portrait of humanity gone terribly wrong.

A gripping police procedural and a disquieting immersion into a twisted psyche, The Silence of the Lambs swept the Academy Awards (Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Actress, Actor) and remains a cultural touchstone.

Schedule:
19:00 - 20:45 Longlegs
Break
21:00 - 23:00 The Silence of the Lambs

From the directing duo who made their extraordinarily creepy debut Talk to Me, their second film follows a brother and sister who uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.

When their father suddenly collapses and dies, Andy and Piper are sent to live at a new foster home. But while their foster mother is welcoming, something is most definitely not right and soon they become unwilling participants of ever more horrifying events and revelations.

A truly unnerving performance from Sally Hawkins pulls you into one of the most intensely disturbing films you'll get to see this, or any year. Amongst the dread however, the film underscores the desperation of grief and mourning. But make no mistake, a thrillingly ghoulish horror this most definitely is. Watch out for Ollie...

Michael Haneke turns the unflinching gaze of the camera back on itself in this provocative, profoundly disturbing study of emotional disconnection in the age of mass-media saturation.

Benny (a frighteningly affectless Arno Frisch), the teenage son of wealthy, disengaged parents, finds release in the world of violent videos—an obsession that leads him to create his own monstrous work of real-life horror.

Layering screens within screens and frames within the filmic frame, BENNY’S VIDEO is a coolly postmodern, metacinematic labyrinth in which the boundaries between actual and mediated violence become terrifyingly indistinguishable.

Don't miss this on the big screen! https://bit.ly/3Tu1MOS

The claustrophobic walls of grief have been closing in on Sarah, who tragically lost her husband and daughter in a car accident. One year later, she and her girlfriends go on their annual adventure trip and are reunited at a cabin in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, this time to go spelunking in the caverns hidden deep in the woods.

The intended bonding-and-healing adventure quickly turns into a struggle for survival as they become lost underground and find themselves trapped with no apparent way out. As their fears increase, their best and worst qualities come to the surface, but their horror increases exponentially when the women discover that they are surrounded by a horde of cannibalistic monsters who have evolved to live underground, and our heroines are forced to become their most primal selves in order to survive.

The Descent is a tightly wound metaphor for grief, loss, and survivor’s guilt, a claustrophobic nightmare where things cannot seem to get any worse for the characters until they absolutely do. It is a film in which the unthinkable happens twice and closure always seems just out of reach.
