Rangina Hamidi could have remained in the United States, where she went into exile with her family when she was four years old, but she decided while still young to return to Afghanistan to help Afghan women. She set up Kandahar Treasure, a women's co-operative, and encouraged her father, Ghulam Haider Hamidi, to return and become mayor of the city of Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan. Her father was assassinated on 27 July 2011. Her American dream was possible, but the same cannot be said of her Afghan dream. http://kandahartreasure.com/founder.html

Shamsia Hassani is one of the few women graffiti artists working in Afghanistan. She learnt the technique during a workshop in Kabul that she found fascinating. Born in Iran in 1988 into a Pashtun family of Afghan refugees, she entered the fine arts world on her return as a young woman to Kabul. In her graffiti works, she paints women wearing burqas surrounded by bubbles. "The bubbles symbolise the words the women would like to say but don't because they are not given a voice in Afghanistan", she explains. http://www.kabulartproject.com/artists/shamsia-hassani/

Today, 2015th International Women's Day, we would like to put in the spotlight one of the countries where women's rights are not yet established: Afghanistan. Fortunately a few women are fighting for their situation to change. Let us introduce two of them: Shamsia Hassani and Rangina Hamidi.

How many times did you think you were not going to make it? "There is nothing that high or that difficult", Araceli Segarra said (the 1st spanish woman who climbed the Everest). And this is true: there aren't impossible dreams.
Happy International Women's Day to everyone!

From TEDx Womenn conferences..."the worst moments in life is not when people don't understand you, is when you don't understand yourself; redesign your dream, feel the creativity power inside you, never give up on your rights!" Sofana R. Dahlan from Saudi Arabia, where women still need permission from their fathers or husbands to do normal things like travel or study...
