To celebrate Arbour week, our youth started planting another pocket forest in the Sustainability Institute’s Woodland. Once completed, more than 100 trees will have been planted! We have been planting, growing and nurturing trees for more than 25 years, creating a sanctuary for the children, our staff, residents and visitors since the early 2000’s.
A pocket forest is a micro-forest system that mimics natural tree growth. It is a dense patch of indigenous trees and shrubs planted close to one another. They form a symbiotic relationship, which helps them flourish and improves soil health. The underground mycelial threads form a connected web that keep soil and other life forms healthy and nourished. As well as providing a space for our children to connect with nature and learn about trees, this action promotes biodiversity and supports the ecosystem’s regeneration.
On this special day we also celebrate The Lexi Cinema’s long-standing volunteers! We dedicate this pocket forest to the volunteers, to say thank you for how they contribute to make the work of the Lexi possible. Your efforts from afar are appreciated and recognised here in Lynedoch, and help us grow stronger.
