Meet Christine, a true ActOne original and July’s 100 Club first prize winner. She has been championing our building as a space for the community since the very beginning, and living just around the corner, she has been part of the cinema ever since.

A retired teacher with French roots, Christine still puts her language skills to brilliant use tutoring the local Japanese community - talk about a woman of many talents! But it’s opera where her heart really lives. Christine is a devoted fan of our Royal Ballet & Opera programme, and loves it so much that she’s taken to calling us “Ahk-to-nee”. A name that’s now spread through her whole friend group. Honestly? We’re considering a rebrand.

Christine, this one’s for you. Merci for being such a wonderful part of our ActOne family, and CONGRATULATIONS on winning ♥️

Five years ago, a committed and enthusiastic group of local volunteers took on a huge task: transforming the old, neglected, Grade II listed Passmore Edwards library into a cinema. Defying Covid and the nationwide decline in high streets, ActOne Cinema & Café is now a bubbling community hub, an illustration of the resurgence of interest in local business. Watch this short video by Matthew Price.

To celebrate its 5th anniversary, ActOne is hosting a series of special events between October 8th and 11th. Festivities include screenings with VIPs, live music, an auction, and a children’s-themed film and activities day.

As Ealing Borough’s only independent cinema (and one of only a handful in London), ActOne offers a unique selection of hand-picked independent and blockbuster films. It also features Q&As, music gigs, a very popular games night, stand-up comedy, film quizzes, and theatre live-streams.

ActOne is proudly looking forward to its next act in the heart of Acton’s lively and diverse community!
