UPDATE: "The restraining order ruling — and why I'm asking for no more questions about Jess"
Quick update on where things landed with Jess.
I didn't get approved for a permanent restraining order. Where I live, the bar for a truly permanent order is incredibly high — you basically need to prove an ongoing life-or-death threat with hard, continuous evidence, not just one serious incident, even with everything documented. What I did get is a 7-year restraining order, which covers both myself and my children. If Jess resumes any contact or harassment after those 7 years are up, I can go right back to court and file again.
For now, that's enough. It gives us real, enforceable protection, and honestly, it gives me peace of mind I didn't have a few months ago.
I know a lot of you have questions still about Jess — what she's doing now, whether her parents have said more, whether there's been any contact since. I'm going to ask that we let that part of the story rest. I have the protection in place, my kids are covered under it too, and I need to be able to close this chapter instead of reliving it in the comments every time I post. I hope you understand.
On a happier note — Jake has officially moved in with me and the kids. It feels less like a big leap and more like something that was always going to happen eventually. I've known him my entire life, our families have been intertwined since before either of us could walk, so there wasn't much hesitation on my end. It just feels right. The kids are thrilled — my oldest especially has been walking around like Christmas came twice this year.
Nothing new on Tyler. Still zero contact with his kids. At this point, I think that's just who he's decided to be, and we're not waiting around for that to change.
