One of the biggest inspirations behind Team America: World Police was the 1960s British series Thunderbirds.

The marionettes, visible strings and action-movie presentation suddenly make a lot more sense when you see the two together.

Team America looks crude. You can see the puppet strings. Nothing about it is trying to convince you that these characters are real.
For some viewers, that's an immediate turn-off.

But look beyond the deliberately ridiculous presentation and there's far more going on — just as there is with South Park and The Book of Mormon.

The End of Oak Street doesn’t just take place in the 80s — it feels like it was made back then.

And that’s not a compliment.

Anne Hathaway carries it, but the more I’ve thought about this movie since leaving the cinema, the less I’ve liked it.
