We are closed on Mondays. Mareel Cafe Bar is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday 10am to 9pm (or when the last film of the evening goes in) and Friday and Saturday 10am to 11pm. Our food menu is served until 5pm (bar snacks are available all day). Mareel is the UK's most northerly music, cinema and creative industries centre. nd programme of cinema, live, music, education, and other performance events. It is a hub and a focus for the creative communities not just in Shetland, but beyond, and a catalyst for the creative industries sector. Mareel has:

🎬Time and Water

Everything is bigger in Iceland. The landscapes, the elements, the presence and depth of time. This is where Magnason grew up, and where he has lived his entire life. Now he is experiencing something that no one in his family ever dreamed could happen: a dying glacier.

🌊The ice is melting, the climate is shifting - and with it, everything will change forever. Featuring beautiful cinematography of the natural world, Time and Water is a thoughtful and existential film - an obituary for a glacier, an investigation into what it means to love a place, and a cinematic letter to the future.

📣 We’re delighted to share some exciting news: Lerwick has been selected as one of just 15 places shortlisted for the UK Town of Culture 2028 competition! We're thrilled that Lerwick’s Expression of Interest, led by Shetland Arts, has been invited to progress to the next stage.

Earlier this year, we submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) on behalf of the Shetland Partnership for Lerwick and the wider Shetland community. The EOI is built around a vision that celebrates what makes our home unique: our rich heritage, strong traditions, vibrant contemporary culture and the extraordinary creativity found across our islands.

While the geographical focus of the submission is Lerwick, its ambition extends far beyond the town itself. Lerwick acts as a cultural gathering place for the wider island community, and the programme we have proposed would be rooted in its venues, harbour, streets and coastal landscapes while giving expression to the full breadth of creativity found across Shetland.🗾

🥣Tickets are selling fast for our Soup and a Show tomorrow afternoon!

A show exploring songs from 100 years of musicals on stage and screen. It will be an exploration of how musicals changed over the course of a century.

🎤Before each piece there will be a quick intro to why this musical was important to the development of musical theatre and what themes the song itself explores. Songs will be sung by Jenny Watt with Dierdre Hayward accompanying on Piano. Some songs include: "Memory" from Cats, and "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables.
