As we move further into May, we’re very excited to see more improvements underway at The Capitol! 🛠️

The most visible changes have taken place with the ground floor toilets where demolition has been completed. The initial partition fit outs are now in place and these new spaces have undergone their first round of electrical and mechanical works. The next step is the installation of the new and improved facilities!

We're thrilled that the additional toilet provision on this ground level includes a dedicated Changing Places facility, which provides ample space for wheelchair users, a ceiling track hoist system and adult sized changing table to provide the highest level of assisted use for visitors with complex needs.

We’re proud to share that your venue is evolving - not just in how it looks, but in how it welcomes everyone. 💜

For the last few years, we've been working with Maria Cook and the wonderful team from Autism Support Crawley Information Page on the continued development of our Relaxed Performances and cinema screenings to ensure we’re supporting the varied needs of our neurodivergent customers.

We’re very grateful for this continued insight and collaboration through our refurb, where we’re working hard to create a more inclusive experience alongside improved accessibility for all.

Building works have already commenced on the new Changing Places facility and our new seating plans aim to improve space and sightlines for wheelchair users, so more people can enjoy shows in comfort and confidence with their friends and family.

Maria is particularly excited for the upcoming developments: “It’s an absolute pleasure to continue our work alongside The Capitol. They always listen, which is so important, and it is through that collaborative approach that real, positive change can happen. The Changing Places facility is such an important step in creating a more inclusive and accessible space for everyone.”

🎭 Happy World Theatre Day! 🎭

Today we're celebrating one of the Capitol team who is normally hidden backstage - our lovely Technical Supervisor, Dan!

Having worked here for almost 20 years, Dan has seen a whole host of shows come and go! When we asked him for his favourite theatre memory, here's what he had to say:

"We've had many exceptional shows but one of my favourites was 'Slapstick' by a Dutch group called Wëreldbänd - full of physical comedy, rehearsed to precision. The attention to detail on their set was extremely high with everything planned down to the last millimetre! As part of the show, the back wall of the set fell on command in the middle of a tap dance solo, leaving just a 1m square hole which landed above the dancer. Stunning!"

"All shows have the same aim, to provide an escape from everyday life and bring people together in a shared experience. None of this is possible without the army of people working to bring it to life, to maintain it and keep it running. That’s the life of a Tech, normally, if we do our jobs well, you don’t notice we are here, until someone shines a light on what we do."
