Earlier this year the internet seemed convinced that Jim Carrey - who has often been very politically active and unafraid to voice his (justified) dislike of the Trump government - was replaced by someone else...

Do you believe the rumours? Do you think the Jim Carrey we know and love has been switched with a doppelganger? Or has he just had some work done and decided not to share his opinions as much?

Well, you can come and see the original vintage Jim Carrey upstairs at The Globe Glossop this Sunday July 12th from 5pm at our screening of the 1996 dark comedy classic 'The Cable Guy'. Tickets available here: bit.ly/glossopcinema

And maybe we'll figure out the truth on the night?! Either way, you're in for a damn good time.

See you at the movies!

Looking forward to screening this cult dark comedy starring the real Jim Carrey* for its 30th anniversary this Sunday.

*If you're a recent internet conspiracy theorist.

"CAAAABLE GUUUUUUUYYYYYYYYYY!!!"

Glossop Cinema Club returns on Sunday July 12th for a 30th anniversary screening of a cult comedy favourite.
At the height of his powers, hot on the successes of Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb & Dumber, and Batman Forever; Jim Carrey took a huge payday to headline this dark comedy from director Ben Stiller and writer Judd (Knocked Up) Apatow.

Confounding audiences upon its release for subverting expectations and twisting Carrey's persona into that of a relentless stalker, the film has grown into a cult favourite, and features a stellar supporting cast including early roles for Jack Black and Owen Wilson to name a couple.

Come and join us for this anarchic and twisted comedy gem, alongside the usual Glossop Cinema Club shenanigans.

Tickets available from bit.ly/glossopcinema

Last night we revealed the full-line up for the rest of our regular Sunday-showings in 2026.

Kicking things off in July with a 30th anniversary showing of The Cable Guy, the cult dark comedy starring Jim Carrey, directed by Ben Stiller, and featuring early roles for Owen Wilson and Jack Black.

Then in August it's true DIY community filmmaking, with a special screening of Edale-made comedy-drama Stone of Stone, featuring the filmmakers in person for an intro and Q&A! This will be a really special and inspirational event for sure.

September we have our first ever double-bill showing 1981's Escape From New York and 1996's Escape From LA, Kurt Russell's iconic anti-hero leads in two satirical action movies from legendary director John Carpenter.

Things get hairy in October with An American Werewolf In London, perhaps the greatest werewolf film ever made? Incredible practical effects, an iconic soundtrack, and the perfect balance between horror and comedy.

November we celebrate 25 years of Donnie Darko, perhaps the most iconic cult film of 21st century thus far, and gave Gary Jules an unexpected Christmas Number 1 with his cover of Mad World.

And finally for December, we screen Die Hard, which IS a Christmas movie, and I will prove it...

All tickets for all screenings are available now from bit.ly/glossopcinema

We care about your safety at Glossop Cinema Club.

That's why we made sure these space marines turned up to ensure a smooth exit from the theatre following our sold out screening of 'Aliens' last night.

Cheers Lee and Gary for the incredible costume-making (and for making it to the show despite many travel woes), we always love to see folks dressed up for our screenings! You've set the bar very high for future events!!!

There was also an impressive array of Aliens-themed t-shirts last night too, kudos again to all who represented with Jonesy, Weyland Yutani and the classic poster art on their apparel!

See you folks at the next one...

A few weeks ago Owain (your regular Glossop Cinema Club host) had a short film he made in the Top 25 of the worldwide filmmaking challenge Straight 8 2026.

His Glossop-made short 'The Quest' had its world premiere at the BFI IMAX in London Waterloo, and today (Sunday 14th June) it has its Glossop premiere at The Globe Glossop from 2pm.

The film was shot on Super 8, and the challenge's rules mean the whole film was edited "in camera", so no second takes, no post production, no special effects other than those you can do in the moment, and the music added without anyone seeing the film!

So join us, and some of the cast and crew, for this little pop-up of a micro epic (it's only 3 minutes long, so we made play it a few times), upstairs at The Globe from 2pm.
