"Set in 1910, the film centers on Katharine Hilbery (Haley Bennett), an intelligent and independent young woman whose true passion is astronomy. Pressured by her traditional father (Timothy Spall) to marry, she balances the expectations of society against her ambitions, which include secretly applying to the University of Cambridge by disguising herself as a man. Along the way, she navigates a complicated romantic web involving a stuffy childhood friend (Jack Whitehall), a lower-class literary editor (Elyas M’Barek), and her devoted suffragette friend Mary Datchet (Lily Allen)."
