Dundead

Nice piece in The Courier UK about Ken Russell's The Devils and how it was initially received here in Dundee.

Our Dundead Halloween screening on Fri 30 October is filling up fast! But do not fear - there are more chances to catch the film in DCA Cinema in November.

Ken Russell’s controversial 1971 film The Devils was banned in Dundee in 1972 after complaints to the council. Now it's finally being screened in the city.

We enjoyed a great start to our Dundead Halloween season on Friday!

A year after we commissioned Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman to create a new score for the 100th anniversary of The Phantom of the Opera, the pair returned to launch their soundtrack album: A House With A Curse. They performed the score alongside the film and then joined us to answer questions at our post-screening Q&A.

Thanks to Andrew and Tommy and everyone who came along. You can catch them on their tour of cinemas around the UK during October and November.

And our Dundead Halloween screenings continue at DCA throughout October - join us tonight for infamous J-horror Audition.

"A stomach-turning masterpiece." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Guardian

"If you can stomach it, this profoundly moving film will leave you dazed." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Radio Times

"a switch and bait that Hitchcock would be proud of" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Skinny

Next up for Dundead Halloween is Takashi Miike's 1999 J-horror Audition. There's nothing like an audaciously entertaining, extremely grisly, pitch-black satire for a Monday night in October!

"alien movie of the year"

"...this was definitely the most fun I've had watching an action movie in a long time..."

"...the action rules, it's so loud and thrilling for so much of it's runtime. It's consistently very funny while not being too cheesy."

Some snippets from Letterboxd reviews of our Dundead screening of Hope. The film continues in DCA Cinema this week - catch it until Thu 1 October.

"...a true cinematic feat..." RogerEbert review: https://tinyurl.com/28jbs23u

We're kicking of a run of Hope in DCA Cinema with a Dundead screening this Friday. Critics are calling it:

'unbelievable—in the best sense' - Slate

'There's a nutty inventiveness..which sits alongside a couple of the most astonishing action setpieces in film history.' - Fangoria

'a propulsive genre-bender that only rarely pauses its nonstop gory action to catch its breath.' - Bloody Disgusting

Join us for all the action, thrills, monsters and more: https://tinyurl.com/354yc97y

This bloody, motoring adventure relishes the unease it places on the audience.

Dundead Halloween just got bigger! 😈

We're thrilled to add The Devils (4K Restoration) to our line-up of features. Censored for more than half a century, Ken Russell’s visionary and controversial film will screen on Fri 30 October - tickets on sale this Friday.

Plus, we've added Michael Dougherty's 1996 short film Season's Greetings (which introduced Sam from Trick 'r Treat!) to our screening of The Omen on Halloween itself.

Next week sees not one, but two Dundead screenings!

Here's a look at what Dundead programmer Michael Coull thinks of both:

Castration Movie Chapter iii. Junior Ghosts—Premorphic Drift; a fragmentary passage
"Q***r punk DIY filmmaking. Funny, incisive, uncomfortable, absorbing and exhilarating. Cinema is alive and evolving!"

See it Mon 21 September, 20:00. Tickets: https://tinyurl.com/y2x39u4b

Hope
"Relentlessly entertaining gonzo Korean monster movie. An absolute blast from the word go with a dynamite central performance. I can't wait to watch this one with the Dundead audience."
