Regal Cinema Dumfries The Regal Cinema was built for ABC cinemas and Opened on 14th December 1931.

The auditorium was reduced in size and modernised in 1972 when the building was divided in two, with Bingo in the stalls and the Cinema remaining upstairs in what was the Circle.

We have received our WatchWord equipment, this is such an exciting piece of equipment, which will allow us to provide closed captions for every screening, but they will only be visible to those who require them via a special pair of glasses which can be booked in advance. We have 4 sets available for each screening.

This week in 1931 the Regal Cinema in Dumfries opened it’s doors for the first time, showing the British comedy film, Let’s Love and Laugh, starring Gene Gerrard in his first talkie.
Work is progressing well to get the building ready for reopening early in 2026, we can’t wait to welcome you all back to your local Cinema, in which you can Love film and Laugh once more.

We are pleased to report that the missives for the Cinema were completed and signed on Friday 5th September. Whilst this took a little longer than anticipated, we are delighted to be one step closer towards getting YOUR CINEMA REOPENED!
