Since our inaugural screening of Woody Allen’s ‘Love and Death’ on the 20th September 1979 when we operated as a Film Society, Chichester Cinema at New Park has blossomed into a nationally acclaimed and locally loved independent cinema. We screen the very best in film from around the world; we host an annual film festival and screen live performance events too.

From 28 August - 15 October, Chichester Cinema is turning the spotlight on our planet, the challenges it faces, and the people taking action to protect it.

This year’s A Greener Screen is our most ambitious environmental programme yet - but it’s not just about what’s happening around the world. It’s about what’s happening right here in Chichester, Sussex and the Solent.

We’re bringing filmmakers and audiences together with local organisations already making a difference, including The Final Straw, Surfers Against Sewage, Transition Town Chichester, Tuppenny Barn, Barfoots, Solent Seascape Project, Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital, Woodhorn Farm, Goodwood Education Trust, On Tap Collective, the Soil Association and Beaver Trust.

From climate change and biodiversity to sustainable farming, our seas, soil, food and wildlife, the programme explores the big questions - while showcasing the people and projects proving that positive change is possible.

THE FINAL FILM OF THE FESTIVAL 🎬✨

After an incredible run of films, premieres, special guests and unforgettable cinema experiences, we’re bringing the Chichester International Film Festival to a close with Pedro Almodóvar's Bitter Christmas – a vibrant, playful and emotionally charged film that moves between 2004 and 2026, blurring the lines between reality and fiction.

Expect Almodóvar at his most colourful and compelling, with complex characters, love, desire, creativity and plenty of twists along the way.

After watching thousands of films, you’d imagine choosing just one favourite would be pretty difficult…

But for Walter Francisco, Festival Director for Chichester International Film Festival, if pushed for an answer it would be...City of God.

Full of vibrant colour, brilliant music, extraordinary performances and perfectly placed humour, it’s a film Walter has returned to many times - and one he’s looking forward to seeing again on the big screen this Wednesday 19 August.

One of this week's highlights includes the English Premiere of Queen At Sea.

Winner of the Jury Prize at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival, this is a powerful and deeply moving drama about love, family and the difficult boundaries between care, protection and autonomy.

Starring Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay and Anna Calder-Marshall, Lance Hammer’s acclaimed film follows a daughter struggling to make sense of her mother’s advanced dementia – and a troubling situation involving her mother and stepfather.

This year, as part of Chichester International Film Festival we celebrate one of Poland’s most acclaimed filmmakers with Landscape After the Battle: The Cinema of Andrzej Wajda.

Marking 100 years since Wajda’s birth and 10 years since his death, the strand brings together five films spanning his remarkable career, exploring Polish history, politics, identity and the universal struggle to maintain dignity in difficult times.

Highlights include Ashes and Diamonds, widely regarded as one of his masterpieces, and The Man of Marble, alongside a special illustrated talk from acclaimed film historian and critic Michael Brooke.

Presented as part of Kinoteka on Tour, in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute London.
