🕷️🕸️DON’T MOVE (2026)🕸️🕷️
I’ve been looking forward to this, as I do love a good creature feature. It’s the second of three killer spider films I’ve been keen to see this year: Spider Island was first, and I thoroughly enjoyed it and Crawlers is still to come. This was Directed by Maclain Nelson, the film follows a church group on its annual retreat in the Ozark wilderness. Their trip takes a deadly turn when they wander into the wrong part of the forest and something starts picking them off one by one. Suspicion falls on Ricky, the group’s troublemaker, but the real threat is a prehistoric arachnid that hunts by vibration and has turned the woods into a web filled labyrinth. With every movement putting them in danger, Megan has to keep the survivors together and find a way to get them out alive. I hadn’t heard of the book this is based on, but I do know James S. Murray from Impractical Jokers. He produced the film, co-wrote the script with Nelson and Wearmouth, and makes a brief appearance as a carny at the fair near the beginning. Fellow Impractical Jokers star Brian Quinn also pops up as a park ranger. It’s a slow burn at first, as we’re left wondering what’s picking off the campers. There are some funny moments, but plenty of tension too, especially once the group realises something is hunting them and let me tell you, it’s massive. The banter is great, particularly from Ricky, and the quirky soundtrack adds to the fun. There’s even a touch of Alien in the way the spider picks off its victims. This is a well made creature feature, with a great monster that isn’t overused. Most of the effects hold up, although a couple of bits of CGI let things down. All in all, I really liked this a lot, and it’s well worth checking out.

🦄🔪 BUDDY (2026)🔪🦄
I’m finally getting round to seeing BUDDY a brilliantly Dark & Twisted take on the children’s television shows of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. A bit like Animal Kwackers(pure nightmare fuel), Barney & Friends, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, Dora the Explorer, Wiz Bit, Teletubbies, Puddle Lane, Potty Time and H.R. Pufnstuf, it looks like a familiar kids’ programme at first, but it doesn’t take long to realise something is very wrong. Poor Josh.
Set in 1999, the story follows a group of children trapped inside It’s Buddy! an episodic TV world ruled by Buddy, a bright orange, humanoid unicorn with a purple heart on his chest and a very nasty streak. When one of the children disappears and the others begin to defy him, they realise they have to escape and make the perilous journey to the mythical Diamond City. Meanwhile, in the real world, traumatised mother Grace is drawn into Buddy’s world and starts to realise that someone from her family is missing. Right from the start, you know we’re not in Kansas anymore. One of the film’s cleverest touches is how the show resets after a character is murdered, quietly swapping in a replacement during the opening montage as if the victim never existed. It’s a wonderfully unsettling detail that makes you wonder what else you might have missed. This is utterly brilliant: gorily funny, wildly inventive and packed with great practical effects. The children’s surreal adventures are a cracking contrast to the creeping dread of Grace’s scenes. Cristin Milioti is superb, and it’s always great to see the wonderfully quirky Clint Howard as George. I also love the film’s play with the Mandela Effect. BUDDY caused a bit of a stir in the States when some parents, unaware it was a horror film, took their children along and got quite a shock when things kicked off! Looking back, some of the kids’ programmes we grew up with seem pretty dark through modern eyes but not as dark as It’s Buddy! There are even echoes of The Wizard of Oz in the journey to Diamond City. I wonder what Sid and Marty Krofft would make of this. I’m here for it and I hope we get more!

📼V/H/S/MIXTAPE📼 (2026) 📼
Music, found footage, puppets,Tentacle monsters and—because apparently we needed more—tentacles! V/H/S/Mixtape brings together a stack of disturbing recordings, with GWAR’s gloriously disgusting wraparound tying the madness together. It’s pure Troma-style excess, complete with a giant demon p***s. Subtle? Not even slightly. The segments take us from Dance, Dance,Dance, Dance about a creepy puppet-show reboot starring a deliciously bitchy Barbara Crampton, to Another Cabin which is stop-motion Lovecraftian weirdness, Heartbeat about an abandoned Cold War bunker in Russia and The Music of Mr. Sze a tale about a young man recording the strange music coming from his neighbour’s home that brings forth something it shouldn’t. My least favourite was Premature Burial—thrash metal just isn’t my thing. But Death Tone, about a young sound engineer following her late father’s recordings in search of a new sound, really hit the right note. Great score, plenty of murder, and a strong finish. With only one segment that didn’t work for me, this is bloody good fun and one of my favourites in the franchise. 📼🤘

A couple of New Godzilla Tapes for the collection, I’m still looking for a decent release of the Cosmic Monster, the first Toho Godzilla film I watched as kid in the early 80s, one day I’ll get a copy.
