Watch the world transform into colour this Easter weekend at the Depot Cinema in Lewes 🌈

Join us for a day of film and creative play inspired by the beautiful animated film Arco.

Start with the screening at 12:30, then stay on for our 14:30 kaleidoscope workshop, where children will explore prisms, light and pattern using a specially made giant kaleidoscope and make their own kaleidoscopes and spinning tops to take home.

The workshop is suitable for children of all ages (and their grown-ups). We especially recommend watching the film first (it’s just so wonderful🫶cert PG) but you’re very welcome to join the workshop even if you haven’t seen it.

For young children aged 2–5, we’re also running two ✨Cinemini✨ cinematic playground sessions earlier in the morning at 10:00 and 11:30, offering a relaxed space to explore light, movement and film-inspired play together.

Places are limited, so booking is recommended via the Depot Cinema website: https://lewesdepot.org

Small World Cinema creates welcoming film experiences for children and families to watch, make and play together.

Don’t forget to book your tickets for our next Cinemini session on Thursday 12 March! 🎬✨

Cinemini is our magical first cinema experience for children under 5 and their grown-ups. This week we’re celebrating springtime with a delightful programme of short films all about birds. 🐦🌸

After the screening, the space transforms into a film playground where children can explore colour, movement, light and shadow through open-ended play. We finish by watching the films again, and children love recognising moments they discovered during play. A gentle, joyful introduction to cinema that often becomes a family favourite.

We loved being part of this year’s Rascal’s Film Festival at the Depot Cinema in Lewes.

We were inspired by the film programme which included ‘Little Amelie’ and ‘Arco’ and we had so much fun making Koibonori - Japanese koi carp streamers as well as eye catching kaleidoscopes.

See you again next year Rascals!

We’re launching our very first family film event last the David Lean Cinema in Croydon (David Lean Cinema) - celebrating music, sound and playful animation.

📅 Saturday 28 February | 10:30 activity | 11am film programme
Arrive early for a relaxed, hands-on craft session where children make their own musical instrument (a kazoo!) and discover how sound effects (foley) are made, from galloping hooves and croaking frogs to crackling fires and rolling thunder. Just like the early pioneers of sound in Disney films and Doctor Who.

Then we’ll settle in for a programme of mostly dialogue-free animated shorts, specially curated by our friends at Flatpack full of rhythm, humour and genuinely fun for everyone aged 3+.

Complimentary tea or coffee for tired grown-ups ☕ and squash for children.

🎟️ Limited places — booking link in bio or via their website: https://bit.ly/4kORjXk

📍 David Lean Cinema, Croydon Clocktower
Easy to reach by public transport (including buses 119 and SuperLoop SL5)

We were so inspired by all of the incredible matchbox habitats that were created in our workshop at the last weekend, as part of their Animal Friends shorts programme for its Family Film Club.

Children made their own habitats inspired by the films, using all kinds of collage materials that we supplied, from decorative papers, stickers, acorns and twigs, magazine cut-outs, fabric and coloured tapes.

As ever, we were truly impressed by the childrens imaginations and the designs they created 🥰

Thank you for having us! 🙌🏼

We loved bringing our ‘old skool games’ to Lewes at our most recent event, which was held alongside the screening of the heartwarming film Team Marco.

Made from simple everyday materials, the games offered families and friends the chance to bond, spend quality time together, and for some it was a chance to show off their competitive streak 😜

‘Inspiring’, ‘joyful’ and ‘happy’ were just some the words to describe our workshop, and we couldn’t agree more 💖
