The Standup Picture Show

The Standup Picture Show The Standup Picture Show - screening cult, classic and current comedy films and showcasing stand up No longer open mic, acts are selected by the team.

The standup Picture Show has been running since January 2012. It was created by Cube volunteer and programmer Marian Lawrence. Marian wanted to set up a night that allowed local stand ups to have a space where they could perform and to show classic comedies that were made for the big screen. Cube volunteers, Alice Matthews and Dave Taylor joined the team. When The Standup Picture Show began, the s

tand up was open mic, usually 10-12 acts in a night doing 5 minute sets. Popularity grew and the Cube began to attract experienced stand ups. The amount of acts performing each night was reduced to 8 and set times increased. The Standup Picture Show has gone through lots of changes, including a name change, it was previously known as Comedy Combo. The night now hosts 6 comedians each doing longer sets and films chosen to screen now include cult and current releases as well as classics. We also work hard to try and bring the film to life around the building - expect plenty of surprises! https://twitter.com/StandupPicShow

If you interested in performing please contact us via The Standup Picture Show page with your name and contact details; information about previous gigs and the type of material you do; links to your video clips. We screened Mike Birbiglia's Sleepwalk With Me Movie back in 2014 at Cube Microplex.

His latest effort Don't Think Twice is a really wonderful film for anyone that's ever tried to 'make it'. Your only chance to see it in a cinema is on May 21st, and it'll be preceded by live improv by Bristol's amazing Closer Each Day Company.

The members of long-running New York improv troupe The Commune find their relationships tested when one of them gets offered the opportunity of a lifetime.

Poor old Beavis and Butt-head creator Mike Judge hasn’t had much luck with his feature films. His cult hit Office Space didn’t get a UK cinema release. Nor did this bracingly non-PC political satire from 2006, which Fox had no idea how to...

We’re excited about Louise Orwin’s show A Girl & A Gun which is at The Wardrobe Theatre this Wednesday. Featuring Ed Rapley as the guest performer, Louise interrogates Jean-Luc Goddard’s assertion that “all you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun”.

After seeing girls and guns everywhere, from music videos to p**n, Louise Orwin started to question whether a woman wielding a weapon is a symbol of power, or just a male fantasy.
