Introducing: Technicolor Summer 🔴🟠🟡🟢🔵🟣

Experience the pioneering hues and intrepid chroma of TECHNICOLOR™, the iconic colour process which brought us vivid, saturated and realistic film from the golden age of Hollywood.

While colour film was by no means invented by Technicolor - you can read more about the history of colour cinema in our A Very Short History of Cinema online story and museum blog - their three colour process was very much when colour took over our screens. Technicolor made it easier, cheaper and better than ever before, and the results speak for themselves, as many still regard Technicolor as the best film has ever looked.

This summer we are bringing a selection of film that truly pop on the big screen, with beloved musical classics such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) and An American in Paris (1951) and tense, rich thrillers such as Black Narcissus (1947).

Don't miss our rare UK screening of Dr Akbar Ahmed’s vital play, exploring the perspectives of Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi & Muhammad Ali Jinnah (Quaid-e-Azam) in the final years of British India.

Through music and theatre, the play invites audiences to revisit the philosophies of Gandhi and Jinnah, highlighting their shared vision of peace, mutual respect, and coexistence.

The performance is especially timely, taking place as Pakistan and India commemorate their respective Independence Days on 14 and 15 August.

This screening will be introduced by Dr Amineh Hoti and is followed by a Q&A hosted by Dr Mohammed Ali OBE who will be joined by online by Dr. Akbar Ahmed and Manjula Kumar. Professor Adeeba Malik CBE will give closing remarks.
