Cussing foxes.

FANTASTIC MR. FOX returns to the big screen at Mockingbird Cinema on Saturday 18 July as part of our Wes Anderson Season.

When Mr. Fox abandons his promise of a quiet life for one last raid on the farms of Boggis, Bunce and Bean, he doesn’t just put himself in danger—he risks the future of every animal in the valley.

Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel, Wes Anderson transforms a simple children’s story into something richer: a funny, bittersweet tale about family, identity, growing older and refusing to lose the part of yourself that makes you who you are.

Every frame is painstakingly handcrafted using traditional stop-motion animation. The fur moves. The fingerprints remain. The tiny imperfections are all left in, giving the film a warmth and personality that computer animation simply can’t replicate.

“The best film Wes Anderson has ever made.” ★★★★★ — Empire

“Wonderful. One of the year’s best films.” ★★★★ — Roger Ebert

Featuring the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson and Michael Gambon, Fantastic Mr. Fox has become one of the defining family films of the 21st century, equally rewarding whether you’re eight or eighty.

It’s funny. It’s endlessly quotable. It looks unlike anything else ever made.

And there’s no better place to revisit it than the big screen.

Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY is now screening at The Mockingbird

Following the Trojan War, Odysseus, the legendary King of Ithaca, embarks on the long journey home. What follows is one of the greatest adventures ever written: a voyage through myth, monsters, gods and impossible trials, as a man battles not only fate, but the cost of war itself.

Drawing from Homer’s timeless epic, Nolan delivers his most ambitious film yet, combining breathtaking spectacle with an intimate story of survival, family and redemption.

Critics are calling it one of the year’s finest films:

“A masterpiece in every way.” — The Guardian

Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron, The Odyssey is already being hailed as one of the defining cinematic events of 2026.

Since October 2023, Gaza has been sealed from the world except for one group - international doctors. While global media are barred from reporting and governments look away, doctors breach the blockade and what they find is not just a humanitarian crisis, but a calculated dismantling of life itself.

Covering a two year period, their firsthand accounts and visceral footage offer a rare and vital chronicle of the daily struggles of healthcare workers as they navigate bombed out hospitals, dwindling supplies, starvation and an overwhelming influx of casualties.

Please note: Life Support contains images that will be upsetting to some audience members.

The screening will be followed by a live onstage Q&A with director Daniele Rugo.

This time, Simon will be joined by Mockingbird Cinema director Lee Nabbs.

Everybody thinks Megan is a le***an. There’s just one problem: she’s a cheerleader.

BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER screens at Mockingbird Cinema on Sunday 19 July as part of our Y2K Season.

Megan appears to be the perfect all American teenager. She has good grades, a football-player boyfriend and a place on the cheerleading squad. But after her family and friends stage an intervention, she is sent to True Directions, a brightly coloured conversion therapy camp determined to teach its residents how to become straight.

Instead, Megan meets Graham.

Directed by Jamie Babbit and conceived as a q***r answer to Clueless, But I’m a Cheerleader transforms a dark subject into a gloriously artificial world of hot pink uniforms, blue overalls, rigid gender roles and unapologetic camp.

Dismissed by many critics on its original release, the film has since become one of the defining q***r cult comedies of its era, celebrated for its visual style, its warmth and the irresistible chemistry between Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall.

“A regular on the midnight cult circuit” — Roger Ebert
“Transgressive and ahead of its time” — Criterion
“A charming cast and surprisingly emotional centre” — Rotten Tomatoes

Also starring RuPaul Charles, Melanie Lynskey, Michelle Williams, Cathy Moriarty and Mink Stole, But I’m a Cheerleader is funny, romantic, rebellious and joyfully resistant to conformity.

Before Live Aid. Before global superstardom. WHAM! crossed a cultural divide.

WHAM! 10 DAYS IN CHINA comes to Mockingbird Cinema for a special worldwide cinema event on Tuesday 28 July at 8pm.

In April 1985, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley became the first Western pop act to perform in communist China, playing landmark concerts in Beijing and Guangzhou during a period of enormous cultural and political change.

For ten extraordinary days, pop music collided with geopolitics. WHAM! arrived as two young British stars and left having opened a window onto Western music, fashion and youth culture for audiences who had never experienced anything like it.

Directed by Mike Christie, this new feature-length documentary brings the historic tour back to life through beautifully restored and previously unseen archive footage, alongside new first-hand accounts from Andrew Ridgeley, members of the touring party and the Chinese fans who witnessed it.

The film also follows Ridgeley as he returns to China more than 40 years later, revisiting the places and people connected to a journey that changed WHAM!’s career, and became a defining moment in modern pop history.

East meets West. Music meets politics. Two friends stand on the edge of global superstardom.

“Life is very, very complicated, and so films should be allowed to be, too.”

TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME screens at Mockingbird Cinema on Monday 13 July as part of our David Lynch Season.

In the final seven days of Laura Palmer’s life, the familiar world of Twin Peaks is stripped of its comforting eccentricity, revealing the violence, terror and suffering concealed beneath the surface.

Reviled by many critics on its release in 1992, Fire Walk with Me has since undergone one of modern cinema’s most remarkable critical reassessments. What was once dismissed as excessive and impenetrable is now widely recognised as one of Lynch’s most emotionally direct, compassionate and devastating films, centred on an extraordinary performance from Sheryl Lee.

“People feel it’s actually a masterpiece” — Mark Kermode
“A striking feat of empathy on Lynch’s part” — The Guardian
“Time has passed, and its brilliance is gradually coming into focus” — The Telegraph

With Angelo Badalamenti’s haunting score and Lynch’s overwhelming sound design, Fire Walk with Me demands to be experienced in a dark cinema, where its dream logic, emotional force and descent into nightmare can fully take hold.

Our David Lynch Season continues with Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Inland Empire and The Short Films of David Lynch.

BACKROOMS: EVERYTHING MUST GO comes to Mockingbird Cinema from Saturday 11 July

This special theatrical edition includes 16 minutes of brand-new, theatrically exclusive footage from director Kane Parsons, presented after the film’s end credits.

More than a collection of deleted scenes, the additional footage forms a new post-credits chapter that takes audiences deeper into the Backrooms mythology. Stay in your seat until everything is over.

Beginning with a strange doorway discovered beneath a furniture showroom, Backrooms follows Clark into an impossible labyrinth of empty rooms, fluorescent lights and spaces that appear almost familiar — but never quite right.

“An icily brilliant and genuinely disturbing conceptual horror film” — The Guardian
“As an atmospheric freakout, Backrooms is extraordinarily effective” — Variety
“Mind-bending and brain-freezing” — IndieWire

Created by Kane Parsons, who first transformed the internet-born Backrooms concept into a viral YouTube series as a teenager, the film expands his world of liminal horror onto a vast cinematic scale.

Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve and Mark Duplass, Backrooms is an unnerving descent into memory, isolation and an environment with no visible end.
