Back From Holiday.

Temporarily Closed in August 2026

During the holiday season, Aldridge Cinema will take a break too. We are temporarily closed in August to allow our volunteers to go on holiday, but don't despair, we will be reopening, as usual, on the second and fourth Wednesday in September 2026.

We continue our summer season with our film for July with "Beginners" on Wednesday 22nd July 2026.

Wrtten and Directed by Mike Mills, Beginners starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer and Mélanie Laurent, is an uplifting comedy about how funny and transformative life can be.

When graphic designer Oliver (McGregor) meets free-spirited Anna (Laurent) shortly after his father (Plummer) has passed away, Oliver realizes just how much of a beginner he is when it comes to long-lasting romantic love. Memories of his father, who, following the death of his wife of 45 years, came out of the closet at age 75 to live a full, energized, and wonderfully tumultuous gay life, encourage Oliver to open himself up to the potential of a true relationship.

We continue our summer season with first of our July films with "MidWinter Break" on Wednesday 8th July 2026.

It is a stirring meditation on faith, commitment, and the enduring power of love, as a longtime couple takes a life-changing trip to Amsterdam. Starring Lesley Manville and Ciarán Hinds and Directed by Polly Findlay.

We continue with our special Friday night performances from the National Theatre with "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" on Friday 26th June 2026.

We continue our summer season with our second film for June with "H is for Hawk" on Wednesday 24th June 2026.

When Helen's beloved father passes away, she is knocked sideways by grief and loses herself in memories of their time birding and exploring the natural world together. She becomes obsessed with the idea of training her own goshawk, and so she brings the fearsome bird Mabel home to her life as a graduate fellow at Cambridge.

Helen fills the freezer with hawk food and turns off her phone, ready to embark on the long, strange business of trying to train this wildest of animals. But as she labours to tame Mabel, a grieving Helen undergoes an untaming of her own.

A record of a spiritual journey, H IS FOR HAWK is a story about memory and nature and how it might be possible to reconcile death with life and love.
