The Birks Cinema Aberfeldy A community gathering place, serving food and drinks, and featuring a state-of-the-art cinema
(542)

In April 2013, The Birks Cinema re-opened its doors to the public as a wee friendly state-of-the art cinema, after a 20 year interlude. This followed a determined fundraising campaign by The Friends of The Birks Cinema which brought in generous support and donations from the Big Lottery Fund, the Scottish Rural Development Program, Creative Scotland, and many other donors, including a huge number

of Highland Perthshire residents. Together, they raised the £2.2 million necessary to purchase The Birks Cinema building and bring it back to life as a community hub, while retaining its iconic Art-Noveau exterior. Since then, The Birks Cinema Trust has worked hard at developing a friendly local community hub, both commercially and socially. This amazing project is still ongoing, so please keep an eye on our website - https://birkscinema.co.uk/ - Facebook and Instagram feeds for details of our film, music and live events programme as well as all the community activities hosted in our hub. So please, come along and experience the magic of the movies as they are supposed to be seen - in our cosy auditorium, enjoying our huge screen and superb sound system from the comfort of our roomy seats......

Every great cinema needs a great cast 🌟🎬 Happy Volunteers' Week!

For Eileen, volunteering is all about people. From helping at LEGO Club to getting involved in special events (including some memorable occasions dressed as a dinosaur 🦖 or Barbie👠), Eileen brings enthusiasm, fun and kindness wherever she goes.

We're incredibly lucky to have volunteers like Eileen. 💛 Thank you, Eileen, and thank you to all of our incredible volunteers who help make The Birks such a welcoming place for everyone.

A woman fights for her family. Can she withstand the tide of times?

In 1995, over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were murdered. Nominated for an Academy Award, Quo Vadis, Aida? tells this story through the eyes of Aida, a UN translator and mother caught between impossible choices. Join us for a powerful and haunting portrayal of the days leading up to the Srebrenica genocide.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "An Oscar-worthy, kaleidoscopic take on betrayal" - Charlotte O'Sullivan, Evening Standard

💬 This film is sponsored by a local supporter of Beyond Srebrenica, a Scottish Charity that promotes awareness of the genocide and helps prevent the recurrence of such events around the world. Stay after the screening for a special discussion with the Chair of Beyond Srebrenica—who fled Bosnia as a child during the war and now works to ensure this history is never forgotten, and explains their work and the consequences of the genocide today.

Mark your calendars for a ✨️surreal✨️ screening at The Birks Cinema.

👩🏻‍🎨 Leonora Carrington is one of the most celebrated names in surrealism—and one of the highest-selling female painters in the world, alongside Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe.

The dreamlike biopic Leonora in the Morning Light follows Carrington as she rebels against social expectations to join the surrealist movement in Paris, alongside iconic figures including André Breton and Salvador Dalí. But it’s her turbulent love affair with painter Max Ernst that sends her on a journey of self-discovery, resilience and artistic transformation. Turning trauma into transcendence, Carrington forged a legacy that changed the history of modern art.

Join us for one of our special screenings:
